"Well.." she began, suddenly losing her confidence to talk with her brother about such a sensitive topic.
"We've always been close, you know? Like big brother and all that. And you look out for me, which is great, because who doesn't want an older brother looking out for them to scare away all the guys," She laughed awkwardly and he furrowed his eyebrows at her, "and also, you're a funny guy. Terrible cook, funny guy but you know, we get along and-"
"Where is this going?" He questioned, looking at her impatiently.
She sucked in a deep breath and sighed, "Right, yeah, where is this going? Well I'll tell you where it's going."
His amused stare stayed focused on her as she continued to ramble on about god knows what.
"Spit it out, woman," He finally stated, growing impatient.
She sighed, "You remember when I got kidnapped, right?"
He immediately tensed, eyeing her curiously, "Yeah, it's not like it was that long ago."
She nodded, wiping her clammy hands on her shorts, "Alfie told me he sold you drugs."
He pursed his lips, "That was alfie?"
"Umm, yeah."
He stood up suddenly and glared at the floor, "God, I'm such an idiot. If I knew it was him I would've-"
She cut him off, "Shut up Conor. I'm talking about the drugs right now, not alfie."
He shut his mouth quickly as his lips formed a thin line, "I'm sorry, Char. It was a one time thing. It was all just a bit much that day, you know?"
"You promise me that you aren't doing drugs again?" She probed, now standing up so they were at eye level.
He placed his hand on her shoulder, "Cross my heart and hope to die."
She gave him a small smile, "I just want to make sure you're okay, I feel like it's all been about me lately and I guess I haven't checked up on you."
He rolled his eyes and pulled her into his chest with his forearm, placing his chin on her head, "You don't have to worry about me, I'm okay. Like I said, it was a one time thing."
She wrapped her arms around his waist and stood in place for a few moments, neither of them saying anything to the other.
The silence was peaceful.
They were soon interrupted my the noise of teenage boys yelling to each other.
"Well... isn't this cute," a voice joked.
Conor rolled his eyes, "Eat a dick, Preston."
Preston smirked and winked at him, "As long as it's yours, Suga."
Charlotte rolled her eyes as people began to file around the fire pit.
She quickly reclaimed her spot on the log and Josh sat on one side of her, Hailey on the other.
She scowled, she didn't think there was someone who she could like less than she liked Preston and yet she had somehow managed to end up wedged between two of them.
Josh grabbed two bottles of beer out of one of the many ice boxes that had been lugged over by the boys.
He fished a lighter out of his pocket and used it to open the two bottles, "Here," He mumbled, handing one of them to Charlotte.
She raised her eyebrows at him but accepted it nonetheless, figuring she didn't want any more drama on this trip than was necessary.
"Think of It as an apology for acting like an asshole earlier," He said with a small smile.
