"Are you sure you don't want me to wait until Thomas comes back?" Jordan pressed.

Charlotte sighed and gently pushed him towards the door, "You can't be late for you first day on the job. You don't need to get fired again. I will be fine."

He placed his hand over hers, "Yeah but are you absolutely positive?"

She rolled her eyes, "Yes, now go. I can take care of myself."

He nodded softly and gave her an uncertain look, "I can stay for a while, it's not that big of a deal, they'll understand."

"Oh my god Jordan, just gooo," she pushed him out the door and he smiled gently, shaking his head at her.

"You call me if you need anything."

She gave him a thumbs up and watched him leave, closing the door softly behind him.

Her eyes drifted along her empty apartment. It definitely was quiet. She wrapped her arms around herself and walked over to the couch, trying to distract herself from the panic she could already feel settling in her stomach.

She settled her gaze on the window and briskly pulled the curtains closed. She let out a shaky breath, she could do this. She would be perfectly fine being in her apartment by herself for a few minutes.

She huffed and sat on the couch, turning on the tv. She flicked through all of the channels, chewing nervously on the inside of her cheek.

Three knocks on her front door attracted her attention and she furrowed her eyebrows. There wasn't supposed to be anyone coming over.

She glanced around and picked up the remote, it wasn't ideal but it could be used as a weapon if needed.

She slowly stood up and made her way to the front door, the remote held firmly in her grip. She pulled the door open slowly and released a sigh of relief when her eyes landed on who was on the other side.

"What are you doing here, Preston?" She asked, the irritation obvious in her tone.

He looked at the remote clutched in her hand in a death grip and chuckled, "What were you going to do? Throw the remote at me?"

She rolled her eyes and stepped aside to give him space to walk in, "Shut up."

He held his hands up in defense, "Hey, at least I knocked this time."

"If you didn't then I would've smacked you so hard in the head you-"

"Yeah that sounds lovely," he interrupted, shaking his head slightly. He looked around, his eyebrows furrowed, "Are you alone?"

"Does it look like anyone else is here?"

He ran his tongue over his bottom lip, "That's my point. You okay?"

She sighed and ran her hand through her hair, "I'm fine, thanks. Now what are you doing here?"

He smirked, "Just thought I'd pop by to see my favourite person."

She arched her eyebrow at him, looking him up and down suspiciously as he let his body not-so-gracefully land on the couch, "Whatever you want the answer is no."

He pushed his lower lip out to form a pout, "Well that wasn't very nice, now was it? Just when I thought we were starting to get along."

She scoffed, "What could possibly make you think that?"

He placed his right hand over his heart, "You mean, we aren't totally bffs?"

She gave him a deadpan stare and he rolled his eyes, "You are no fun, what does Thomas even see in you?"
