Chapter 6
How It StartedS C A R L E T
"It's your first day in High School, aren't you even nervous?" My Dad asked.
He is sitting right beside me while holding a mug in his left hand and the daily newspaper on his right.
"There's no need for me to be nervous father." I confidently said while looking at the huge gate of the school that is right in front of our car.
I am actually nervous right now. But I don't want to be weak in front of my own father. I want to prove that I am a not a disgrace to this family.
He looked at me with full of concern. "Showing your weakness sometimes isn't bad you know. Always remember that you are a strong woman. Just like your mother." Nang imention niya si Mom ay napatingin ako kay Dad.
I never met my Mother. She died after I was born. They say that I actually look a lot like her...
"I just want you to be proud of me." Napatingin ako sa sahig.
Unlike other kids my age, I'm willing to do anything my father ask me to. I want him to be proud at me. I don't want him to say someday that I'm just a huge disappointment.
"I'm always proud of you Scarlet. Whatever you do, you're always the best for me." Niyakap niya ako.
I smiled. He's so nice to me. He never got mad at anything I did that was wrong. He's always by my side. He's always there when I needed someone. I'm so lucky to have a father like him. I may not have a mother that can always be by my side at least he's there to fill up that missing space in my life.
"I've got to go. You don't want me to miss my first class right?" Biro kong sabi dahilan para mapatawa ng mahina si Dad.
"You're really just like her." Even though it was a whisper, I heard him loud and clear. That's how strong my hearing sense is.
I know he misses her a lot. Who wouldn't anyway? Based on their stories about her, she's like the perfect person in the world. I admire her on every story they tell. She's like that main character of a story that seems too perfect to be true.
If she was alive. My life would be perfect.
"See you soon darling." My father said as I exit the car.
It would be months until I see him again. He's busy handling his work overseas. My father is a businessman and he owns the Zamora Empire. Isang napakalaking kumpanya na nagkakalat sa buong Europa at Asya.
Tiningnan ko ang kabuuan ng paaralan. It's actually my first time attending a school. I've been homeschooled ever since. A part of me is nervous about communicating to other people, lalo na sa mga taong kaedad ko lamang.
I don't have a sibling to talk to, I am also not close with my cousins dahil wala sila dito sa Pinas. Yung mga nakakausap ko lang ay ang mga taong mas nakakatanda sakin tulad kay Dad, yung mga kasambahay namin, at saka yung mga nagtratrabaho sa kumpanya.
"Hi!" Mayroong isang babaeng lumapit sakin. "You must be a new student here right?" Tumango lang ako.
Ngumiti siya sa akin at inilahad ang kanyang isang kamay. "I'm Joanna, we can be friends." Tiningnan ko lamang yung kanyang kamay.
