I pull up to the dirt road a few miles from the campus as Noah stops his car next to mine. I turn to him as he turns to me. He smiles. "Are you sure you really want to do this?" I gave him a fake frown.
"What's wrong Noah? Afraid you'll have to explain to everyone that you lost a bet with a girl which cost you a car? I'm sure you have the money to buy another one." He chuckles as he nods.
"Alright, I see you aren't going to back down. Well, you can't complain about my driving skills when I'm in your car. Your car was made to be a race car and around here cops know better than to pull me over so I could go as fast as I want." I roll my eyes as Ivy walks in front of our car. Eric leaned on hers as he watched from a distance.
"Are you two ready?" She asked. We roared the engines and she smiles. "May the best racer win." I grip my steering wheel.
"I tend too," I said. I heard Noah give out a low laugh. She counts down and as soon as she gets to one we were off. I put my foot on the gas and let it hit the ground. Noah started off behind me for the first 40 seconds until he somehow got to my pace. I wasn't too worried. I knew my car was much newer and his car had nothing on mine. We stayed at a steady pace for half of the track. I finally hit my booster and went flying past him. I looked back to see him still smiling. I put my eyes back down in front of me and smiled. I glanced down at my booster energy to see it was running low. I shrugged and turned it off. I didn't need it. I was going to win anyway. I began to bounce in my seat when I saw Ivy's shiny car. I giggled. "Too easy." Just as those words slipped out of my mouth Noah went speeding past me to the finish line. A second later I passed it pissed. I get out of my car as does he. He walks up to me with a smirk. "How the hell did you beat me?" I snapped. He shrugs.
"You may have the newest model but I had my engine redone to match yours. The only difference between your car and mine is that yours was built with a little more weight on it then mine was. I just want your car because it's sexier than mine and it's newer. But I'm starting to think that mine is better." I crossed my arms.
"You cheated?" He shakes his head.
"I had my engine redone before you and I ever met. I just wanted to see what yours can do and well mine did it better." I sighed and raised my car keys.
"A deal is a deal." He smirks.
"I change my prize." I give him a confused look.
"You can't do that after the race. You should have done it before." His face falls as do his eyes.
"I want you to give me another chance." I was shocked. He looks up at me. "We don't have to be anything more than friends if that is what you want but I don't- I can't lose you. I need you to be apart of my life. You are one of the only things that keep me sane." I gulp as I look into his eyes.
"I never intended to walk away from you, Noah. I just need space. I want us to be friends. I want a bunch of things but what I need is a friend. I just don't want to rush into anything and end up where I started." He nods.
"I understand." I take a deep breath. I glance over towards Ivy and Eric to see them watching us as Eric held Ivy from behind. I smiled at them. I look back at Noah.
"Do you want to have a movie night?" I asked. He smiles.
"I do. But where are we going to have it? Ivy's room or mine?"
"Mine. I have snacks already. Trent likes to eat a lot." He chuckles.
"Why are you two hanging out all the time? I thought you hated each other?" He asked as we walk up to Ivy. I look at the ground.
"Before he and I dated we were good friends. We thought that it was a good idea to date since we knew everything about each other. Turns out we were wrong. Although we are still good friends it just took us a minute to get back to that." He nods.
"Great race," Ivy said. I look up at them as Eric smiles.
"I guess the newer version isn't always the fastest." I cross my arms.
"Oh no, it definitely is he just replaced his engine with the newer model." He cackles.
"That's classic." Noah stuffs his hands in his jeans. I look at Noah as he glances at me. I take a deep breath and turn back. Ivy smiles at us and I clear my throat.
"We were thinking about a movie night in my dorm?" I asked. Ivy looks up at Eric and back at me.
"We can't actually. We have a date planned. Eric has had it planned for a week now." I smiled. He kissed her cheek.
"Baby, we can do it tomorrow?" I shake my head.
"No," Noah and I chimed. He looks at us. I look at Noah. He motions to them.
"You guys go out and have fun. Hope and I can have a movie night with a few friends or something."
"Are you sure?" Eric asked. I turned to them and nodded.
"Yeah," He nods. He stands up straight and sighs.
"Well in that case we must get going. Don't want to be late." She turns to him.
"It's only 5 pm." Eric nods as he opens the driver seat door.
"You have an hour to get ready or more. The sooner we leave the more time we have." She smiles as she glances at me. I smiled.
"I'll see you after for details." I nodded. She gets in the car and I smiled. They drive off and I hum.
"You know don't you?" Noah asked. I nod.
"Who do you think picked out the ring?" I asked as I turned to him. He smiles.
"Great choice." I giggled.
"Thanks."
