|Murphy's POV|
I'm usually on the sidelines, but here I am finally telling things from my perspective. I'm Murphy, a 6th grader, and I'm 11 years old. I'll be turning 12 this Summer. It's been a lot of changes in my house in the last year and a half. I gained another big sister in Jamie and a big brother in Zach. I never thought I'd have a big brother, a blood brother, outside of my surrogate wrestling family. Zach is pretty overprotective, just like my dad and uncles. He fit right in from the very beginning.
Enough about my family that you already know about. More about me? I'm the 'smart aleck' of the family. I have something to say all the time. It's just who I am. Even though I'm about to be in 7th grade, my parents still treat me like I'm a baby. That's why I pretty much stay to myself. The less I'm around them, the less they hound me.
I am talking to this guy I met on an app. A lot of kids at my school use it. His name is Greyson. He's in 7th grade, about to be an 8th grader. A grade apart isn't that bad, right? You're probably thinking, 'are you dumb or are you stupid?' Meeting someone online at my age? Well, we have FaceTime'd and it's not like it's catfish or anything. How bad can it really be?
We were having a great convo, that was until my mom came in. I didn't even hear her. We usually talk once I'm finished with dinner. Tonight was no different. I sent him a text I was done and then he FaceTime'd me.
Hey Murphy.
Hey Greyson, what's up?
Nothing much. Taking a break from my game.
What are you playing?
Fortnite.
My brother plays that sometimes.
Our convo continued on as usual. He asked me about my day, vice versa. Everything was regular until he asked about meeting up.
So, when will I finally be able to meet you?
We don't even live in the same state, so I don't know.
Well, I live in New York, you can come see me.
I don't know about all that. It's kind of hard for me to just go off on my own.
Oh, you're not so much of a rebel after all.
Call it what you want.
Well, I want to meet you, sooner rather than later.
I get that, you've been bringing it up quite a bit.
Well how about tomorrow we meet halfway or something?
Wait, what?
Yeah. To be honest, I'll come to Connecticut to see you. We can meet in a public place if it makes you more comfortable.
Like I said, I don't know, especially not about tomorrow. It's too soon.
I get it.
Well, maybe we can meet up soon enough.
I saw something out of my peripheral and felt my headphones being pulled out. I quickly closed my computer. I turned to see my mom standing there. How long was she standing there?
"H-hi mommy. I didn't hear you knock."
"I'm sure you didn't. Who were you just talking to?" she asked.
"Huh?"
"No, don't do that. You heard exactly what I said. Who do you plan on meeting and why'd you close your computer? As a matter of fact, open it back up."
