He felt it happen. And really, it should have been comical, the way each and every single head suddenly looked up all at once, completely transfixed by some sound they didn't know the source of. Like something out of a horror movie, and surely they were all probably expecting Godzilla himself to suddenly pop up and tear the roof free from the walls.
But nothing occurred within the next thirty seconds. No unspeakable horror show come to ruin their good time. And it was like a flip had been switched and the silence that had fallen so quickly was dispersed, until the drone of voices seemed to reach an almost fever pitch.
Maybe it should have been hilarious the way he and Hoseok looked at each other, eyes locking like they were somehow capable of telepathy. Like the noise alone had given them that particular super power. But their brains worked in similar enough fashion that it was almost possible. That they both glanced at the place where the source of the doom that was currently occurring had once sat before lifting their eyes back towards one another was like something straight out of a well rehearsed movie scene.
"Go." It was a soft whisper, barely loud enough to be heard over the ambient sound level currently surrounding them. Hoseok's body was pressed in close, hands reaching out to take the thankfully empty tray from his hands as he spoke. "I'll cover for you."
Part of him - most of him - was entirely aware that out of all the things that he had not wanted to do in his whole life, this was the one he wanted to do the very least.
But he could feel it. Like a radiating pulse of energy flowing downwards. So thick with anger and overflowing with tension that it nearly made him sick to his stomach. Made him wonder if he too was about to walk off into the metaphorical deep end. Just take a step off that plank and disappear down into the depths of the water, never to be seen again.
In truth he already had. The moment he had chosen Jungkook had been the moment he had plunged into those icy depths. And there was no turning back. Was no turning around. No, this had been a one way ticket to his own ruination, and he was driving at a rate of speed that was only going to quicken his own destruction.
All he could do was pray to whichever god hadn't yet forsaken him. All he could do was hold on to those rays of hope that had taken hold within his own heart.
All he could do was believe in the love he felt. All he could do was believe that what was being given back was the love it claimed to be.
All he could do was choose. And he would always choose Jungkook.
Until the end of this life.
He would always make the same choice.
And that choices name was Jungkook.
