M stared at him blankly, as if he couldn't believe he'd just blurted it out.

And for Kongpob, finally saying the words with a bang, he felt an unprecedented sense of relief in his heart.

But on top of that ease, M's distraught expression made him feel incredibly guilty.

He sighed, but didn't run away from facing M : "I'm sorry, M, I don't want to keep giving you such false hope, in my heart, you've always been my best friend, and I just don't know how to treat you like a lover."

M's eyes were a little red.

His lips quivered for a long moment before he managed to find his voice, "Didn't I say I could wait? I'll be waiting no matter how long it takes."

When Kongpob's text message just came, he'd been awakened by the ringing, and the content of the message had jolted all the sleep out of him.

But he didn't know how to react.

Make him take it in stride? Receiving a message and then simply responding with a "Okay, I got it"?

If he'd been able to do that, he probably would have let go.

He knew Kongpob was soft-hearted, and it was precisely this characteristic of him that was able to escape from his repeated hesitation and stop, so that their relationship could be maintained to the present.

So he purposely set that text message to unread, thinking that Kongpob would also be like before, seeing this he would soften and quietly delete the text message, pretending that nothing had happened.

But not this time it was different.

No, he'd actually expected it.

Ever since Arthit had shown up again, everything between them had been different.

It was just that he was still holding on to a trace of luck in his heart.

Now that even that fluke had been shattered, M had a sudden feeling that the man who'd left the cold water on for two or three hours was really being ridiculous.

Kongpob's guilt deepened a bit as he watched him cower.

"I am sorry." He didn't know what else he could say besides those three words.

M's lips trembled, his voice so low it seemed to make the air freeze, "Is it because of that man?"Kongpob's heart moved and looked at M in silence.

They didn't even have to say the man's name, because the man had been a presence they couldn't ignore ever since he'd appeared.

"I am sorry." Kongpob still had those three words.

M, who had always been gentle, finally got agitated this time, "WHY? WHAT'S SO GREAT ABOUT HIM? DON'T YOU SEE? HE WON'T EVEN LOOK YOU IN THE EYE!" and

M's words poked right at Kongpob's heartbreak.

But Kongpob also needed that sting right now to neutralize the guilt he felt towards M.

If he could, he wished that M would be angry with him, even if it meant beating him up, so that his guilt could have a place to go.

Kongpob laughed bitterly, "I know he hates me, but I can't help it...I can't help myself."

M closed his eyes, his sore eyelids irritating his tear ducts and causing him to shed a couple of tears.

Kongpob felt even worse when he saw his face and walked over slowly, placing his phone on M's pillow and whispering, "I'm sorry, I know I shouldn't be bringing this up when you're sick, but I'd rather not continue to consume your feelings. If I hadn't been so indecisive in the first place, we wouldn't have gotten as complicated as we have."
