A/N: This one is more fluffy, I wanted to cut these guys a break..... for now at least.
Alexander was in his room, prepping up for his date with Eliza. He wanted this night to be immaculate. He loved Eliza very much and wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. Alex went into the bathroom to do his hair. He was in there for awhile.
"Alexander! This is a shared bathroom, and some of us need a shower!" Lafayette banged on the door. "You don't need thirty different hair products, pick one and get on with it."
The Washingtons were listening down stairs as the boys yelled at each other.
"Are you sure you want to add another one of those to this house?" Martha laughed.
"This kid has nowhere else to go. If we don't do anything they'll take him to Boston, and his hard work to get into this school would be for nothing." Washington replied.
"Are you sure this isn't just about his school? That doesn't seem like a good enough reason." She responded. Mrs. Washington knew her husband and could tell this wasn't the cause of him doing this.
"It's just... When I met him, I saw the same look in his face that I saw when I first met Alexander and Lafayette. The look of a child who isn't loved. I want to make him feel loved." George answered.
They had spent all afternoon preparing for Laurens' arrival. He would be there around 7:00.
When Alexander found out what time John was coming, he knew he would have to alter his plans a little.
"Eliza." He said, calling her on his phone. "I wanted to know if we could get something to eat after the movie. My family just made plans that I can't really get out of."
"Are you still going to make it to the movie?" She asked.
"Yeah of course. I'll be done by like 7:15, hopefully."
"Hurry up Alexander!" Laf yelled at him.
"Was that Lafayette?" Eliza asked.
It was still a secret that Alexander and Lafayette lived with the Washingtons. He would tell her probably after the date. He didn't want to start their relationship off with lies, he knew he could trust her.
"Oh, there's a movie on in the other room." He answered, not wanting to completely lie to her. "I'll see you later." He hung up the phone.
7:00
The doorbell rang and Washington jumped up and went to the door. He opened it of course, knowing who it would be.
"Mr. Washington." A man answered. "I'm Charles Lee, and this is John of course."
Laurens rolled his eyes. Lee knew he liked to be called by his last name, but he called him John just to spite him. And if he wished to be called by his first name, he would most likely call him by his last.
"Yes. Good to see you again." Washington smiled.
"I do have to warn you. He doesn't exactly have a great track record." Lee stated, trying to make Laurens sound like a bad kid.
"That's alright. We have two other boys here, and Alexander has been in dozens of homes. He'll fit in just fine." Washington said.
"Well I really must be going so, let me know when you change your mind." Lee said.
"I think you mean if?" Washington asked.
"I know what I said." Lee spat, walking back to his car.
Laurens kept his head down. He was sad, and completely humiliated. He figured the Washingtons wouldn't want him anymore.
"Come on in John." George greeted him happily.
"Laurens." He corrected. "I prefer Laurens."
"Ok, Laurens." Washington helped him inside. He didn't have anything more than a backpack.
"This is my wife, Martha." He began. "Boys get down here!"
Lafayette came down first.
"This is Lafayette. He's been with us for almost six years." George said.
Laurens was a bit relieved. He had been to foster homes with parents that had their own kids, they never kept him for long. He was happy they fostered other boys his age who had been there for awhile.
Alexander ran down next. Alex didn't know the last name of the boy that was coming to live with them. Only that his name was John.
"Laurens?" He asked.
John turned over to the stairs. It was the same boy who stood up to Aaron Burr.
"Have you two met?" Washington asked.
"Yeah, I saw him in the courtyard today." Alexander responded, not wanting to embarrass him with the whole story. "During lunch, I went for a walk."
"Well then, glad to see you're making friends already." Washington spoke.
Laurens didn't really consider Alexander to be a friend before. When he was ten, he hung out with a boy all day, but the boy told him he didn't want to be friends with him. Straight to his face in fact.
Laurens gave a fake smile and walked into the living room. It was a lovely little home. Rustic and old fashioned. Yet still modern and comfortable.
"Come with me, I'll show you around the house." Washington said, gesturing Laurens to follow.
He showed him the kitchen, the study, the dining room, the downstairs bathroom, the library, the den, and the living room before heading upstairs.
"Those two rooms are Lafayette and Alexander's. This is the upstairs bathroom." Washington began. "And this one is your room."
The house was huge. 4 bedrooms, 2 1/2 bathrooms. Laurens was in awe.
He walked into the room. It was a nice sized space. He rarely got his own room in other homes, and if he did, it was usually the size of a closet. He was ecstatic."I'll give you sometime to get used to your room and unpack. Dinner will be in thirty minutes." Washington gave a smile before leaving the room.
Laurens opened up his backpack. He didn't have much. Just some notebooks, a couple old shirts and jeans, and a box that belonged to his mother. It was small and wooden, but he loved it so much. He wished he could open it, but it had a lock for which he had no key. His father kept it from him. When Laurens' father abandoned him on a street corner, he gave up hope of ever finding the key.
John opened the closet to find lots of new clothes and shoes. Baseball caps and jackets. There was a note as well.
Hope these fit. If not, we can get you some new ones. -Martha
Laurens was very happy to be in a good home at last.
