The Day After!

Laurens woke up the next morning. He felt awful. Washington was sitting in the chair next to him. When he woke up, he pushed the button to call in a nurse.

"Wha-a-a?" John tried to mutter out.

"Hey, relax. The anesthesia is still probably in your system, you might feel a little woozy."(I have no idea, I don't think I've had surgery, unless I did as a baby) Washington calmed him. He couldn't blame the boy, he would be pretty upset too if he blacked out and woke up in the hospital.

The nurse came in and checked to make sure he was alright. (Again, I've never had surgery, sorry if this is wrong.) She gave him some medicine, and told him to rest. She left and said the doctor would be in soon.

Alexander had woken up when the doctor came in. "Huh, I don't remember falling asleep." He laughed.

"I don't remember coming here." Laurens said in confusion.

"It's alright. You remember what happened at school, right?" Washington asked.

"Kinda."

"When we got to the hallway, I called an ambulance. They said you had appendicitis. You're ok now, I promise." Washington reassured him.

Laurens calmed down and started taking deep breaths.
Washington pulled out his phone and called Martha and Lafayette. They came down a few minutes later.

"Hey honey, how are you?" Martha asked.

Laurens nodded. "I'm fine." Again with a short response.

"Bravo mon ami! Thanks to you, we got the day off." Lafayette praised.

"Just today." Washington reminded him.

Even though they tried to reassure him, Laurens was still upset for some reason.

"Are you ok?" Alexander asked, being the first to notice.

Laurens just stayed silent. The problem was, this was his first time at a hospital since his mother died. When he was little, his father never took him to the doctor, and when he got older, his foster parents only ever took him to a pediatrician. John hated hospitals, they reminded him of death.

"Laurens, are you ok? You haven't relaxed since you woke up." Washington asked. "You can tell us."

He didn't answer, he just shook his head.

"Hey, boys? Why don't you go grab something to eat and give us a minute." Washington handed Lafayette some money, and he and Alexander went to the cafeteria.

Washington closed the door and sat down on the bed next to the boy. Laurens got teary eyed.

"What's wrong?" George asked.

Laurens didn't know how to answer, he sat up and tried the best he could.

"I don't like hospitals."

"Ok." Washington knew he wouldn't say much more. He grabbed Laurens' backpack and pulled out his notebook, and a pen. "Try and draw."

Laurens grabbed the notebook and opened it. He began to draw as Washington kept the questions coming.

"Why do you hate hospitals?"

"I haven't been to one since my mother died." He sighed. "I-i-i." He began to stutter.

"It's ok, I promise. The doctors here are good people, they won't let anything bad happen to you." He tried to reassure his foster son.

"I-i-i know, but i-i-t is still hard." Laurens stuttered again.

Washington pushed his book down, and wrapped his arms around his foster son. He could see the look on the boy's face, the look of guilt.

"It's ok." He reassured him. "I promise, it's all going to be ok."

Laurens slid his head onto Washington's arm. He was still in too much pain to move his whole body. "Thanks Dad. I-i m-mean..."

"You're welcome." Washington smiled. "I'm glad you're ok."

Alexander and Lafayette made their way to the cafeteria. They ordered some food and Alex got a call from Eliza.

"Hey baby," He answered.

"Oh my gosh, how is he?" Eliza gasped.

"He's ok, he woke up a little bit ago. I think we might have to push out 8:30 res." He joked. (Get the reference?)

"Whatever. So he's doing better? Good." She tried calming herself. "Don't tell him this, but Peggy was worried too."

"Ha, that's great. I mean, not that she's worried. But that she might like him too." He laughed.

"Yeah, well I have to go. Glad to here Laurens is ok." Eliza said. "Bye."

"Bye." He hung up and went over to where Lafayette was sitting with the food. He sat down and explained the conversation.

"So you think Laurens likes Ms. Margarita Schuyler?" Laf asked.

"Oh he has got it bad for Peggy. He practically turns into a tomato everytime he sees her." Alexander chuckled. "Yeah."

"Mon ami notre garçon est amoureux." Lafayette frenched.

"English, please." Alexander chuckled. Not wanting to have to translate.

"Our boy has fallen in love." Laf translated for him.

"Calm down, I don't think he knows yet," Alexander joked. "And if he does, he's not the talkative type."

Laf laughed. (Lol) Alexander got a another call, he looked down at the screen which read Washingdad. He picked it up and answered it.

"Hello?"

"Hey, just wanted to let you know you can come back whenever you're done." Washington answered. "And bring me a salad." Martha yelled in the back.

Alex giggled. "Ok, we'll be back soon."

They got back in line and ordered a salad before heading back up to Laurens' hospital room.

"How long do you think he will be here?" George asked the doctor.

"He'll be in the hospital for about half a week." (Again, have never had surgery, I Google a little bit, but it didn't give an exact answer, so I'm estimating.) "But after he gets out of the hospital, he should rest for another half a week, or maybe even a full week." The doctor explained.

"Ok, thank you again." Washington thanked him.

The doctor left after a few minutes. Laurens turned on the TV and watched the office. (Because it's like my favorite show, and I'm actually watching it while I write this.)
Alexander and Lafayette came in later and sat down. Alexander fell asleep later that night, as usual, and Martha and Lafayette went home. Washington sat by Laurens and soothed him.

"You should try and get some sleep." Washington tried to convince him. "The doctor said to rest."

"I can't sleep." He gave a short reply.

"I know." Washington believed that Laurens thought he would go to sleep, and never wake up. "But if you try, it would help you."

They watched about two whole seasons of the office (One and two.) before Laurens finally fell asleep.
