It had been about a week since the 'check up'. Laurens had a few more therapy sessions and was starting to talk a little more.
"Hello beautiful." Alexander walked up to Eliza at lunch. "Has anyone told you that you are the most beautiful thing on earth?"
"Am I a thing to you?" She joked.
"No. I mean you are, NOT. I'm saying that a person is a thing and...." She cut him off.
"I'm just kidding. Relax, I love you and I'm going to joke with you." She laughed.
Alexander smiled. Eliza loved his smile, it made her feel all warm inside.
"So, I'm having a Halloween party at my house. October 31st, Schuyler Manor. 8:00, don't miss it." She smirked.
"What are you going as? I shall go as your lover." He chuckled.
"I don't know yet, why don't you help me decide?" She leaned forward and kissed him. He meant the world to her.
"How about Romeo and Juliet?"
Alexander leaned out."No, that's too cliche. I'm sure that one of my friends is going to be Juliet anyway." Eliza turned him down. "I know, let's go as Helen and Paris."
"Who's that?" Alexander asked. "I don't want to be a guy named Helen, that's a girl's name."
"No silly. You'd be Paris." She chuckled.
"No, not happening." He began to walk away to his next class. "I'm not going as a guy named Paris."
"Please baby, please." She pleaded with puppy eyes.
"We'll come up with something better." He said, he gave her a kiss on the cheek and made his way to his next class.
Lunch.
Alexander was late to lunch that day, so Eliza decided to have a little chat with Lafayette.
"Do you know how to persuade Alexander to do something?" She asked.
"No. He is too stubborn and head strong. Why?"
"I want him to dress as Paris for Halloween so I can be Helen." She admitted.
"You mean like Troy?" Laf joked.
She smiled and nodded.
"I may have a way." Lafayette smirked. "Why don't you dress up for the dance? I thought it was a Halloween party?"
"I have to go with Jefferson. It's fine, I'm not however looking forward to it. I wish I could just stay home tomorrow." She sighed.
Then Jefferson came over to the table.
"My lady, I would like you to dress as Juliet for the dance tomorrow."
Eliza almost burst out laughing. Turns out, Thomas and Alexander had more in common than you'd think.
"Maybe we could go as someone else?" She wanted to see his reaction.
"Nope, you are the most beautiful girl at this school and I want you to be the most beautiful person at the dance." He was just as head strong as Alexander.
"Fine, I'll meet you there tomorrow."
Angelica, Lafayette, Peggy, and Laurens had decided to call off the bet since Alexander wasn't going to the dance with Eliza. They instead decided to go to the Schuyler's Halloween party with each other instead.
Laurens and Peggy arrived shortly after Thomas left.
"Ugh," Eliza sighed. "Jefferson insisted on us going to the dance as Romeo and Juliet. Don't tell Alex." She laughed at the last part.
They sat and waited until Alexander arrived. Then Angelica broke the silence.
"Lafayette, if you and I are going to the party together, what should we go as?"
"I don't know." He admitted, not actually giving a lot of thought to what they should go as.
"What about IIsa and Rick. From Casablanca." Angie said happily.
"Ok, I haven't seen it. But sure." He agreed.
"What about you sis?" Angelica looked over at Eliza.
"Me and Alexander are going as Helen and Paris." Eliza answered for the both of them.
"I never agreed to that." Alexander stated back.
"Actually, I would love to see you as Paris and you owe me a favor." Lafayette interjected.
"Ugh, fine." He finally gave in.
"What about you Pegs?" Eliza looked over at her sister. "What are you and Laurens going as?"
They both blushed almost simultaneously. Neither of them felt comfortable talking about this with the other one, especially since their siblings were dating.
"I don't know." Peggy broke the silence. "I haven't really thought about it."
"Me neither." Laurens answered.
"Ok, then we should do a vote." Eliza decided. "Top best romantic movies. Then we all decide from there."
"Dirty dancing." Angelica gave her suggestion.
"Ghost?" Lafayette said, he hadn't really watched too many romantic movies.
"Oh, I take the cake." Eliza smiled. "Titanic."
They all voted and the winner was Titanic.
"Ok, so we all have something picked out. Can't wait to see you all." Eliza smiled. The bell rang and they headed to their classes.
The next day. The dance.
Eliza had dressed up as Juliet, feeling awkward that she was going with Jefferson instead of Alexander. She loved him very much though and wanted to keep his secret safe.
She drove to the school and saw Jefferson as Romeo, she sighed knowing Alexander would have a made a much better one. She walked over and said hello.
"You look great." He smiled. "The beauty of this place."
Eliza wished Alexander was here more than ever. He had such a way with words. If he were here he would say something like, you're eyes outshine the brightest stars in the sky. Not, you look great.
He took her hand and they went out to the dance floor. Aaron Burr was there with his girlfriend Theodosia, and kept mouthing things to Jefferson while they were dancing. After the first song ended, they went over to grab something to drink.
"Are you having a good time?" Thomas asked.
She wasn't having a bad time, but she didn't want to give him satisfaction. She was also curious about what he was telling Aaron.
"I saw you mouthing to Burr. What was he saying?"
"When I told him I was coming with you, he didn't believe me." Jefferson chuckled. "I proved him wrong."
Now he really sounded like Alexander, wanting to always prove people wrong.
"Huh, funny." She slipped out.
"What?"
"Nothing."
They continued to dance for about an hour. Eliza was actually having a good time, but she still wished she was there with Alexander. She felt as if she was there with her cousin. A slow song came in, and Jefferson held Eliza in his arms.
"I wish you would go out with me." Thomas started the conversation.
"I'm with Alexander. I can't." She wished she chose her words better.
"Then let me show you what you're missing." Before she knew it, he leaned in and kissed her lips. She pushed him back.
"I'm sorry." He apologized.
"I have to go." Eliza ran out of the building. She jumped in her car and drove home.
Jefferson was sorry, he didn't want to hurt her. The last time he tried to force her into a relationship with him, he had such guilt. He also wanted to take her away from Alexander though.
When Eliza got home, she ran inside, grabbed her pillow, and cried all night.
