After the court ruling, Laurens was sent to a foster group home. It was for teenage boys in between foster homes. He had been to places like this before, he decided the best thing to do was unpack and lay low.
"Hey, who are you?" He heard a boy say.
"John Laurens. I won't be here long and when I leave my life is going to be great or is going to suck." Laurens stated.
"I'm William. William Dempsey. I have no idea how long I'ma be here." Will admitted.
Laurens smiled at him, at least he would have one friend.
"Here's a few tips. How long have you been in the system?" Will asked.
"Twelve years."
"Good, well not good. You get what I mean. Gabe is the guy everybody likes. Toby is the weird guy who for some reason has an ant farm and takes it everywhere he goes. And Branson is the jerk who sucks." Will explained pointing at each boy. They all seemed to be John's age.
"Thanks." Laurens responded. "What's the wifi password?"
"7ee6d6f8." Will answered. (Lol, that's my old wifi password that I still somehow remember.)
"Nice." John typed it into his phone and pulled out Skype.
"Who you calling?" Will asked.
"Some friends." He taped on Alexander's picture.
He waited a few seconds before Alexander picked up.
"Hey Alex." Laurens laughed.
"Dude what are you doing? You know you're not supposed to contact us." Alexander argued with him.
"No, they said I couldn't have any contact with the Washingtons. You're Hamilton." Laurens defended. "Plus, I want to know how Peggy's doing."
"Ooh, who's Peggy?" Will laughed, as he heard the conversation.
"She's fine, we're all good. How you holding up?" Alexander sounded concerned, which of course he was.
"Sucky." Laurens sighed.
"Washington just set another court date. I'm sure they'll inform you soon." Alex continued.
"Tell everybody I miss you guys." Laurens smiled. "Bye."
"Bye." Alex said before hanging up.
"I don't mean to push, but what was that about?" Will asked curious.
"It's ok, it actually would be nice to have someone else to talk to while this is all going on." Laurens started. "My father is trying to get custody of me and my foster parents are fighting it."
"How are they fighting it? That sounds awful." Will replied.
"Actually, I want them to win. My father left me when I was little and I don't want him back in my life." Laurens admitted.
"Wow, you'd rather be with a family who would kick you out within a few months?"
"No, they're actually really nice. They have two other guys my age with them now. Alexander's one of them. They actually like me." Laurens explained.
"Yeah, hopefully I'll find one of those someday. I don't really care though. I'll be eighteen in a few weeks, then I'm going to the police academy." Will answered.
"Awesome."
Washington had been preparing for days, he hired the best lawyer in New York, who happened to be a good friend of his. He had concrete evidence against H. Laurens. He just needed the judge to agree with him. Dr. Reynolds also agreed to testify all that Laurens told him.
