A few weeks had passed and the annual Winter's Ball was coming up in two days. Alexander had already asked Eliza, and Laurens was planning on asking Peggy. Angelica and Lafayette were no longer together, which meant that another Schuyler sister was up for grabs.

"Is your sister going to the dance, and if so, who's she going with?" Alexander asked.

"She has a date, but won't tell anyone who." Eliza complained.

"Really? I thought you guys told each other everything." Alexander asked. Even though Angelica was in college, Eliza over heard that she was going to the ball with someone. "That's surprising."

"Lately I don't know what's going on with her." Eliza sighed. "It's been stressful ranting to her and she just ignores me."

Lafayette came over by them, so they quickly stopped the conversation. "Hey Laf." Alex greeted him.

"Hey." He walked over awkwardly. "What's up?"

"Just chatting." Eliza tried to act cool.

"If you guys want to talk about the ball I don't care." He laughed.

"You seem to be taking this break up oddly well." Alexander observed.

"Yeah. I'm kind of over it." Lafayette began. "It's ok, I didn't see us being together forever, she just decided to end it first."

Laurens and Peggy walked up next. Tomorrow was John's last day on crutches before he got upgraded to a walking boot. Peggy helped him carry his books.

"What's going on?" Peggy asked.

"Nothing really. Alexander and Eliza are just being weird." Laf laughed.

"Oh, so a normal day." Peggy teased.

"Peggy, do you know who Angelica is going to the ball with?" Alexander asked.

"Ange is going to the ball? When did this happen?" Peg jumped.

"I may or may not have been eavesdropping on her conversation. But I don't know who she's going with." Eliza explained.

"Dang." Laurens said.

"Yeah." Eliza sighed. The bell rang and they all scurried to their first classes.

The next day, Eliza snuck over to Angelica's door and heard an interesting conversation.

"I don't know if I can do this. I mean, I feel so bad already." She heard Angelica say. She didn't catch what the other person was saying through the phone. "Ok, you're right. But if I do this I'll look like a hypocrite."

"What is she talking about?" Peggy snuck up behind her.

"Shhh. I don't know yet." Eliza whispered.

"Hang on one second." Ange said. "I need to check something."

She walked over and opened the door sending Eliza and Peggy falling to the ground.

"What are you doing?" She laughed.

"We came to see you, then you somehow knew we were there?" Peggy tried to convince her.

"Nice try, I'd like my phone calls to be private from now on." Ange tilted her head. She wasn't mad, but she clearly didn't want them to find out who she was talking to.

"If you don't tell us now, we're going to find out at the dance." Peggy reminded her.

"Then you find out at the dance." She said, shutting her door behind her.

"We learn nothing." Peggy sighed.

"Except that she still has guilt over something." Eliza remembered what Angelica said.
