Warning: LOTS OF FRICKEN ANGST!!!!! Punching, bullying etc.

The first day of school was here. Washington was up at dawn getting ready. The Washingtons were foster parents, and they were taking care of two teenage boys at the moment. The first was Lafayette, a 17 year old from France. Even though he moved to America years ago, his accent was still as clear as if he had never left. The second was Alexander Hamilton, who was from the Caribbean. Also 17 and was as bright as they come. Alexander had the potential to do great things, if he could learn to shut his mouth. Both boys attended the school Washington taught at, but they didn't tell anyone they lived with him. Most kids would make fun of them or say their grades were a conflict of interest. But George Washington never favored them, even when people didn't know.

Washington always left early, being a teacher, and Lafayette and Alexander drove or were dropped off by Martha about fifteen minutes before school started.

The three were already at the school by this time.
The bell rang and everyone hurried off to their classes, not wanting to be late on the first day.

Alexander and Lafayette were both in US History. It was their first class as well, so they went in early and sat down at their desks before the bell rang. Along with every other student of course. This was a top school and every student knew better then to be late on the first day. Almost every student.

"Good morning everyone." Washington said as he walked in.
"For those of you who don't know, my name is Professor Washington, I will be your teacher for the school year. Please turn your books to chapter...."

Washington wasn't able to finish since he was interrupted by a boy running into the class. All eyes turned to look at him, including Washington.

"Ah, you must be Mr. Laurens." He said after looking at the young man. "Please take your seat and try not to be late tomorrow."

The boy nodded and walked to the back of the class. Normally, the teachers at this school were very strict, and would have bitten his head off for being late. But there was something about this boy that made Washington soft. He wasn't wearing the normal uniform, his curly hair was all messy and unkempt. His clothes were old and worn, and he looked unhealthily skinny. His shoes held together with duct tape and he seemed very shy and distant. He also had a decent sized scar on his neck. Washington knew this was the boy he chose for the scholarship. John Laurens.

After the class was over, Washington stopped Laurens to talk to him. There was only about ten minutes until the next class so he knew he would have to make it quick.

"So John, do you like it here?" He asked.

Laurens didn't answer, he just nodded.

Washington read about him when he was selected as a candidate for the scholarship. John was a foster kid. His mother was dead and he had been abandoned by his father when he was five. He had been in the foster system ever since. His current family didn't have much money, Washington figured that's why they took him in. By how skinny he was, he could tell they didn't give him much food either.

"Do you have money for lunch?" George asked.

Again, the boy didn't say anything.

"You can tell me. If you're hungry I'll give you some lunch money."

Laurens again said nothing, but this time he nodded.

Washington grabbed his wallet, pulled out twenty dollars, and handed it to the young man. Laurens took the money then ran to his next class before the bell rang, not wanting to be late again.

"Alexander?" Lafayette asked at lunch.

Alexander just sat at the table, writing. He couldn't care less about what was happening around him.
