Iroh called me after a short while I was trying to convince Kiki for us to merge so I could fly away and find them. But she refused, it actually seemed like she wanted me to stay here. But even Iroh said it, my destiny was intertwined with Aang's. I found Zuko sitting on the ground and Iroh with a stick in hand. I sat besides Zuko and watched Iroh as he drew the Fire Nation insignia on the ground.
"Fire is the element of power. The people of the Fire Nation have desire and will, and the energy and drive to achieve what they want." He started to draw another symbol." Earth is the element of substance. The people of the Earth Kingdom are diverse and strong. They are persistent and enduring." He went to draw Aang's symbol.
" Air is the element of freedom. They detach themselves from worldly concerns and find peace and freedom. They also have pretty good senses of humour." I giggled at this. It was true. When I had first met Aang I wondered how he could be so happy when all of his people were killed. But it was true. They did detach themselves from wordly concerns and found peace unlike me, who was rooted to the ground and was disturbed by everything; the war and the fact that it caused my brother and father's death. I was grateful for Aang's friendship. He made it seem like he carried happiness with him, something I needed during these times of sorrows.
"They really do. Have you ever met an air nomad?" I asked Iroh, tearing myself from my thoughts as I looked at old golden eyes full of love and wisdom.
"Sadly, no." He said with a small smile and I sighed sadly. He continued to draw the water tribe insignia. " Water is the element of change. The people of the water tribe are capable of adapting to many things. They have a deep sense of community and love that holds them together through anything."
"Why are you telling me these things?" I rolled my eyes when Zuko asked.
"It is important to draw wisdom from many different places. If we take it from only one place, it becomes rigid and stale. Understanding the other elements and the other nations will make you whole." Iroh explained.
"Yeah, Zuko. What I've learned from my journey is that not everything that we read in the Fire Nation textbooks were right. Also, bad people come from everywhere." I said as I looked at him and he nodded. I will never be able to forget General Fong. He was the worst. He tried to manipulate us and failed, and the fact that he almost killed Sokka and Katara made my anger burn for him.
"But all these four elements talk sounds like Avatar stuff." Zuko said. I couldn't believe after all these years he still had a one way mind.
"It is the combination of all the elements in one person that make the Avatar so powerful. But, it can make you powerful too." Iroh said as he prodded the stick in Zuko's chest." The technique I'm about to show you is what I made up myself from studying the waterbenders." Zuko gasped and I clapped.
"That's wonderful." I said. Hours passed as I watched from afar as Iroh taught Zuko to redirect lightening. It did look like a waterbending move. Kiki sat by me. " So when are we going back to Aang?" I asked her. She just squawked and I rolled my eyes. " I wish you could talk so I can actually get an answer." She squawked again like I had insulted her.
I watched continuously as I glanced from the two firebenders who were practicing to my fire lily rainbow pendant. Someone who was the North Pole brought it. I wished I could know who but they were thousands of Fire Nation soliders who came that day. Then an idea passed by me, I could ask Iroh. He was wise and I had always thought he knew everything.
" I thought that was the point? You teaching me to protect myself from it." Zuko shouted. I quickly stood up and went to them.
"What's the problem?" I asked but Zuko ignored me and Iroh groaned. He looked furious.
