Thomas was blinded by the sudden light and shielded his eyes.

After a minute or so he unshielded his eyes slightly trying to scan his surroundings. Dirt and dust. Not a single tree but a line of mountains rose far in the distance and in front of those mountains, a cluster of buildings sat squatting together like a pile of abandoned boxes.

“The Rat Man wasn’t kidding about those sun flares; it’s very hot out here. We better have something wrapped around us or we’ll have second-degree sunburns. We can wear these sheets like protection.”

Thomas whipped out his sheet, then pulled it over himself and wrapped it tightly around his face.

“How far away do you think those buildings are?” Newt asked.

This chapter is pretty short, like really really short but the next one is not.
