"When you have friends, don't expect your friends to fill your emptiness. When you get married, don't expect your spouse to fulfill your every need. When you're an activist, don't put your hope in the results. When you're in trouble don't depend on yourself. Don't depend on people. Depend on Allah."

Yusuf was out of town for some business trip from the last five days and by what everyone was saying at home,Eisha gathered that he had successfully signed some important business deal. The main lawn was decorated with lights and modern trendy amenities where men were boasting about how he has raised the pride and honour of the family while women were working like donkeys to make the men happy through their stomachs.

The extended family union was one big planned effort, attended by nearly fifty people and Eisha was quite amazed at the extravagance and size of the gathering for such a trivial reason, but she remained silent. The women were inside the house as this was the opportunity to look at each other and talk about display, beauty and Jewellery while the men preferred to stay outdoors.

Besides this, the family was very sensitive about food.Food in this household was highly symbolic of the relationship among men and women. Though males held the reign of power but women eventually ascended to power by gaining power over the menu, daughter in law and her family, once their sons were married.

Eisha's mother in law's territorial feelings towards her son was a huge challenge for Eisha to deal with. Especially her obsession with what's being cooked for him every single day,was making it difficult for her to be a part of the abode.

"Eisha I asked you to make Mehlabiya topped with cream and additional nuts, but I can clearly see you haven't followed my instructions."

She pointed at the platter of the dessert topped with chopped almonds and chocolate dipped walnuts, in the help's hand.

Eisha looked at her with a dumb face not sure how to reply to her 'microlevel-noticing' attitude and her annoying habit of asking unnecessary question.

"I thought it would give an extra crunch". She replied meekly.

"Don't you know he's not a chocolate fan"?

"I'll make sure it doesn't happen in future".Eisha tried to find an exit strategy out of this conversation.

"This isn't how good wives are supposed to be".

She stood across from her with a look of pure bewilderment strewn across her pretty face.

"If you think being submissive and docile makes a good wife, then I am sorry ummi I'm not that kind of wife."

There was an anticipated silence around them for a couple of seconds, as expected.

"Whom do you think you're answering back to?"

Her abrupt, factious tone warned Eisha that she was not at all pleased with her response.

"Like I said I'm sorry ummi, but I have to let you know when we differ in our reasonings greatly. Besides if you had planned his life around Islamic values instead of food,I think he'd been a different person,a better Muslim and a better person".
