"well, wasn't that refreshing?" mingyu aggressively shook his head, making salted droplets of water fly through the air. wonwoo squinted his eyes and crunched up his nose when his face was being sprayed with it, punching mingyu ever so playfully when they finally decided to get out of the water.
"i still hate you nonetheless." of course he didn't, despite the fact that he tend to tell him that a lot in a way to not feel embarrassed all the time.
"hey! wait up!" mingyu called when wonwoo took a sprint to the towels, trying to find where mingyu had thrown the shirt to so he could cover up his milky white chest again. his body was still dripping wet, but he was determined to wear his piece of clothing regardless.
mingyu noticed how wonwoo was quick to cover up his body, making a wave of guilt crash over him when he realized something important. he had taken off a piece of clothing without his consent..
did he make things awkward between them? would they even be on good terms now? have they ever even been on good terms? mingyu felt so unsure about everything and nothing out of sudden, but managed to remain calm, running up to wonwoo ever so happily as he didn't want to throw away his chances on getting closer to him.
"wonwonnnn." mingyu whined, childishly throwing himself on the towel so he could lay on his back and look up at wonwoo. he had to cover his eyes from the blinding sun to catch wonwoo's weirded expression.
"it's wonwoo. my four year old sister calls me that all the time, you can't convince me you never learned how to talk properly!" wonwoo said, trying to wring out the biggest amount of water from his shorts so they wouldn't stick onto his legs so obnoxiously tight.
"and you never learned how to make fun properly." mingyu teased, sticking his tongue out before silently adding, "besides, wonwon sounds adorable.. just like when you called me silly."
with an utterly deep sigh wonwoo sat down on the towel next to mingyu's, pushing his glasses on his nose again while looking over the beach that started getting a lot more peaceful now people started leaving one by one, meaning it was getting later.
"mingyu, we've been in the sea for nearly the entire afternoon. we took only one break before you pulled me back into the sea! is there more you want from me? and no, silly can't possibly be that cute!" wonwoo argued back, trying to make his own statement clear which mingyu obviously disagreed on.
"talk to me more would do the deal!" mingyu got up in defense, not being able to suppress a chain of chuckles coming from his mouth, sitting crossed leg in front of wonwoo, "and yes it is! call me silly, come on!"
"what the-, mingyu. no."
"come on! you can't convince me your heart doesn't explode when a specific someone calls you silly!" both mingyu and wonwoo simultaneously turned crimson red when they realized mingyu said that out loud.
"i mean.. you get the point i'm trying to make!" he corrected himself with ease, covering up the part where he exposed that wonwoo calling him silly made his heart beat a little faster. luckily for him, his friends were there to save him. wonwoo would have to bare with the embarrassment he felt for a bit longer..
"yo! i just won from both junhui and hansol!" chan yelled, throwing the volleyball against mingyu's head in triumph to celebrate his victory.
"what was that good for!" mingyu innocently cried, rubbing the side of his head where the volleyball had hit him.
"winning from them was easy anyways!" chan continued, talking more to wonwoo than to the pained mingyu as he sat down on the towel next to the introvert curly head, "hansol is just lazy and i've never seen anyone more clumsy than junhui."
"mingyu is clumsy as well! i just can't help it! volleyball is hard okay!" junhui whined, smacking chan against the back of his head when he reached down for his water bottle, generously downing the drink at once.
"why do your accusings always include my clumsiness!" mingyu threw back at junhui, obviously not agreeing with his statement.
"come on mingyu stop denying it, i bet even wonwoo knows how clumsy you are at this point, right wonwoo?" hansol included him in their discussion, making wonwoo gulp at the sudden sound of his name being called out.
"i- eh.. i guess?" he stuttered now he was surrounded by three others out of sudden, losing the confidence he had while talking to mingyu just a second ago.
"see! wonwoo is the last nice one of us in this group!" mingyu said, widening his eyes so his expression would match with the point he was trying to make.
and while the group started on a wholly different conversation, wonwoo silently stood up, being invisible to everyone as usual. everyone but mingyu, whose eyes followed every movement wonwoo made.
"are you going?" he also asked when wonwoo had turned around to search for his sister who was probably still busy playing with euki. the beach was running empty on a faster pace by now as dinnertime was approaching.
"i have to pick up my sister, we promised to be back by dinner." wonwoo explained, being a bit surprised his absence got noticed so quickly.
"i'll see you soon again, right?" the wavering in mingyu's voice was what pulled wonwoo's attention, making him turn around to the boy who looked at him with anticipation. was he really that excited to see him again?
wonwoo barely ever spoke and it was still hard for him to comprehend why mingyu, the kim mingyu, wanted to spend more time with him. it seemed to surprise him every single time again.
"sure." was wonwoo's usual short reply before he fully turned around, determined to keep walking this time, "later." he called back, having absolutely no clue that mingyu was grinning widely at the sight of him walking away.
"bye wonwoo!"
