wonwoo silently approached the familiar looking silhouette by walking up to him from behind. there was a weird sense of excitement playing up from the bottom of his stomach, which confused wonwoo.

normally, he would feel too anxious to approach someone so he would take the easy way out by sneaking away without making a sound. anything to avoid having a verbal conversation. but somehow, mingyu's extremely positive attitude towards him every time they met seemed to work soothing on him, making it easier for wonwoo to actually open up.

just when he was about to call out his name, when he was only a few inches away from him, he noticed something was off. while his body shape was precisely similar to mingyu's, something didn't match the picture.

a clearly visible cloud of smoke circulated around his head, going up the sky and fading away in the nightly breeze. mingu smoked? it seemed so surreal to wonwoo, who had this perfectly painted picture of mingyu in his brain.

he slowly bopped his head along on a tune that was playing through his earphones, meaning he hadn't heard wonwoo walking up to him from behind. wonwoo made another step closer and leaned a bit forward so he could hear the beat of the song that was playing, although he couldn't quite hear which song it was, despite him listening to music a lot and having a pretty wide knowledge.

it's now or never..

a sudden rush of nerves shot through his body when he realized he was about to have a physical conversation, but he tried to get over it as he gently tapped mingyu's shoulder, trying to get the taller's attention.

mingyu, on the other hand, was absolutely not expecting anyone at the beach around this time and visibly jumped a little, jerking both his earphones out of his ears at once as he looked up at wonwoo with big eyes.

but even when wonwoo had scared him, his expression softened and made place for a wide smile where he showed off his perfectly formed canines  that illuminated the light of the bright moon.

"wonwoo! what are you doing here so late? here, sit down!" mingyu happily patted the floor beside him with his left hand, keeping the cigarette in between the index finger and thumb of his right hand. "we always bump into each other by coincidence, how funny!"

wonwoo sat down next to mingyu, keeping a small space in between them as he found himself looking at mingyu instead of the view in front of him. something he wasn't used from himself. "i felt like taking a walk." he answered, which wasn't completely a lie. after he ended his call with jisoo he indeed felt the need to continue his nightly stroll. "what are you doing here?"

"same as you, i felt like taking a walk." mingyu answered as well, before bringing the cigarette up to his mouth. wonwoo watched fascinated how the tip lit up when mingyu inhaled. the way he exhaled the smoke again seemed so ethereal, wonwoo had no idea someone could look so beautiful while smoking.

"smoking is bad for you." wonwoo said out loud, making mingyu look up at him with surprised eyes.

"i know.." mingyu sighed, visibly disappointed in himself as he took another deep inhale of the cigarette, "you're the first one who has seen me smoking actually."

"don't your friends know about it?" wonwoo asked with a puzzled look on his face.

"no one besides you now. i could have hid it away when you approached me, but i figured you would have seen it already." mingyu explained, "shouldn't i be honest and open with you anyways?"

"why?" wonwoo asked again, obnoxiously short. which somehow still didn't seem to bother mingyu who only smiled fondly at him.

"you know what, forget i said that." mingyu blew a last big cloud of smoke before putting out his cigarette in the sand, leaving it there. wonwoo decided not to mention it, although it seemingly bothered him.

"how long have you been smoking?" wonwoo questioned, wondering if he showed the right kind of interest in mingyu.

"for about a year i think. i personally don't see myself as addicted, but it usually calms me. so i can't exactly stop. it's getting harder to smoke every time behind everyones back though. hansol almost caught me yesterday when i hung out of my bedroom window and he came in to wish me goodnight."

"then why don't you stop?" wonwoo offered as a solution that seemed easy to him. but in reality for mingyu, it wasn't as easy. and he might actually be just a little addicted to the familiar feeling of reassuring smoke filling his lungs, calming him down with just one inhale.

"i don't know." mingyu admitted, looking beside him to find out wonwoo had been staring at him for the whole time. he finally had the opportunity to look at him as well and examine his sharp cat-like facial features. even when there was barely any light around them, his eyes were used enough to the darkness to see a perfect amount of details engraved in his face.

a surprisingly comfortable silence fell over the two boys as their eyes were glued to each others faces, both unaware that they were obviously staring at each other, too caught up in the moment to actually care.

wonwoo was so lost inside mingyu's eyes, nose, lips, hair and everything about him. if he only knew that he wasn't the only one who thought that way. because mingyu's feelings were already way more developed than wonwoo's were at this point.

"you're aware of it that we are both staring at each other, right?"

wonwoo's eyes widened and he tried to hide how flustered he was by aggressively turning his head away, trying to focus on the calm waves in the distance to clear his mind. what was i even thinking? it's rude to just stare at someone like that. he scolded himself in his mind.

but mingyu felt happy.

happy to have wonwoo in his company.
