slowly fall - ha hyunsang

the entire apartment was filled with silence as moonlight shone through the windows, being the only source of light as everyone already went to sleep. or did they? because even at this ungodly hour, both mingyu and wonwoo seemed wide awake.

mingyu's bed didn't seem to offer much space, which caused their bodies to be awkwardly pressed together. unlike one of the first nights they slept together, both were now wearing full pajamas instead of their boxer shorts being the only garment to cover up their private areas. but the zooming fan in mingyu's room worked perfectly fine and ensured enough cool air so they wouldn't catch a cold mid-summer.

yet still, both mingyu and wonwoo found it impossible to fall asleep. after spending hours of cozy chattering about everything and nothing they decided it would be best to get some rest. and now, only five minutes later, they hadn't done anything else than examining each others facial features from up close in the fair moonlight.

it had been peaceful and comfortable for both, who felt like they could endlessly continue in silence forever. until mingyu decided to take it a step further and to grow the proximity between them. so slowly, to let wonwoo adjust to what was about to follow next, he moved his arm up above the blanket and gently cupped one of his cheeks. with his thumb he started caressing his utterly soft skin, going on with nothing more but tender touches.

"you can't sleep either, can you?" mingyu grinned, seeing how wonwoo leaned into his touch a little more.

the raven boy unconsciously inched closer to him on the pillow they shared, not quite able to look mingyu in the eyes. though with the simple gesture of mingyu's hand bringing his face up a little, their eyes met again. oh how wonwoo couldn't resist those beautiful brown orbs, or those plump lips he just wished to be devoured by.

"i feel like if i fall asleep and i wake up tomorrow, this will all be a dream." wonwoo whispered as silent as possible, not wanting to be caught by namjoon.

"if this is a dream it's definitely a good one." mingyu chuckled before finally closing the gap between them and catching wonwoo in a quick kiss. it was not the right time to take a further step yet, so deepening the kiss didn't seem necessary to both. just a tight peck fulfilled their desires enough, for now. "we can sit by the window and stare outside for a while if you want?"

wonwoo nodded, feeling how mingyu slipped the duvet off them and climbed over wonwoo to get out of bed. the elder followed him soon after and stood next to mingyu, staring directly up at the sky. "i swear, if i had access to the roof i would have taken you there to properly go stargazing. i would have at least let my window sill get fixed for you to sit on it."

"then how about we go stargazing in my backyard next time?" wonwoo offered, catching a glimpse of mingyu's pearly white canines that formed a breathtaking smile.

"i would love that."

silence dawned upon the two boys yet again as they looked up, trying to look past the building on the other side so they were able to see a piece of the nearly full moon. and only in that moment the two boys realized how much they've been through to get at this point.

from sleepless nights spent at the beach to cozy nights in seokmin's stay all the way back to their hometown where wonwoo ended up in the hospital in a state of amnesia. all the cigarettes mingyu had smoked that reminded him of the same bittersweet taste of wonwoo's lips. or all the novels wonwoo had read on which he made up scenario's of him and mingyu inside his head.

there were so many new things wonwoo had learnt along the way as well. about how to treasure a true friendship. the different meanings behind hugs. he even learned that not everything is as perfect as it seemed. accepting his own flaws was yet to come, but perhaps with a little help of mingyu he would be able to achieve that as well.

"your hair looks so majestic in the moonlight. i bet you were a prince in another life." mingyu spoke once they both sat down cross-legged on the floor, their eyes still fixated on the sky. or so wonwoo thought, because when he turned his head to face mingyu he found out the boy had been staring at him already.

"says the one who looks like a literal greek god." wonwoo giggled, hiding his embarrassed expression behind the curls mingyu just pointed out. which didn't last long, since mingyu gently brushed away the strands of hair that covered up majority of his face.

"you know, that night at the beach when you were so scared i would reject you because of all your flaws?" mingyu whispered, reminding wonwoo of one of those magical nights back then. they hadn't only spoken about it on the beach, a lot of things had been discussed in the guest room of seokmin's lodge as well.

"i can remember that." wonwoo hummed, slightly inching closer to mingyu so their thighs were brushing against each other.

"if i have to be completely honest with you, i've never even noticed they were there." mingyu chuckled, placing his cheek on wonwoo's shoulder as he leaned his body weight against the boy next to him. "all those so called imperfections and insecurities you told me about, i just wasn't able to see them. and i don't think i ever will."

wonwoo slowly dropped his own cheek on top of mingyu's head with a heavy sigh. "you know mingyu, how much you like to tell me that it's not true, i don't think i'll ever be able to get this perfectly painted picture of you out of my head. everything that has happened to you in the past is a part of you and forms the person you are now. it actually even completes the way i see you."

a stray tear rolled over mingyu's cheek, finally realizing he had found peace within himself. wonwoo had given him a safe haven, a place where he felt at home. but most important, mingyu found peace, knowing he found someone that understood him through a language only they were able to speak.

both remained in a serene silence, staring up at the unclouded night sky through the window of mingyu's bedroom, only falling deeper for all their imperfections.

because both boys knew, they might not be flawless, but they were loved by each other. regardless of all their flaws.

the end.
