mingyu explained where he had put wonwoo's shoes as it were the only clothing items he had taken off the night before. however, even after his explanation wonwoo still couldn't find his pair of black nikes.
he had searched for them behind the bedside table, in the corners, underneath the bed, but they seemed no where to be found in the room. now wonwoo, still feeling awkward and quite uncomfortable in mingyu and his friends company, wasn't planning on giving in that easily and kept looking through the bedroom. even it if had to take way longer to actually find them, he would do anything to avoid any type of social interaction.
"so.. you and mingyu?" wonwoo flinched by the sudden voice and shot his gaze up the the person leaning against the doorframe, crossing his arms and sending a sly smile in his direction. he was just searching underneath the bed and was quick to stand up, trying to pose as natural as possible.
"me and.. what?" wonwoo tried acting as if he didn't know what seokmin was pointing out, although it was obvious. he could tell by the look on his face.
"come on! i really want to know everything about you two! it doesn't happen every day that a group of gay teens stays over in my hostel!" seokmin sat on the bed and patted the empty space next to him, motioning for wonwoo to sit down as well.
the clearly uncomfortable boy walked over and took a seat on the bed next to seokmin, propping his feet up on the wooden frame and hugging his knees tightly. "so wonwoo, please explain to me what's going on!"
"how do you know i'm gay?" was the first thing wonwoo blurted out, making heat rise up to his cheeks in embarrassment.
"it wasn't that hard to guess, the way you give mingyu certain glances give it away." seokmin states, giving the boy next to him his signature broad smile, wrinkling the corners of his eyes as he pressed them nearly closed.
"but i don't like mingyu, we only met yesterday!" wonwoo defended himself. he noticed himself speaking more than usual without feeling uncomfortable or having any difficulties with talking. it made him realize that seokmin was actually a pretty decent and comfortable guy to be around.
"then why are you looking at him from time to time as if you're going to eat him alive?" seokmin threw back in disbelieve.
"because he looks unreal- no i didn't say that out loud, you didn't hear th-" "-stop defending yourself wonwoo, it's not like i'm going to tell him or anything, i mean isn't it obvious that he's head over heals for you?"
wonwoo knitted his eyebrows together as he looked directly into seokmin's eyes to see if he could find any trace of lies. "why? he barely knows me. it's not like i talk a lot."
"you should have seen him when we had dinner yesterday. there was no way we could get him to stop talking about you. apparently he had seen you before on an instagram post of one of his friends and he hesitated about texting you because he didn't want to seem like a disturbing stalker. so when you two coincidentally met at the beach yesterday he went wild."
wonwoo could still remember how mingyu had thrown junhui in the sea the day before because he mentioned something about that instagram post. it still wasn't quite clear to wonwoo how a guy like mingyu could have possibly noticed and even remembered him from a simple photo that was taken from afar.
he wasn't even that special.
or so he thought.
"i wonder how he remembered my face from an instagram post.. a guy like mingyu probably has tons of followers." wonwoo heaved a defeated sigh, knowing he wouldn't have any chance with the taller male.
"come on, don't get yourself down like that! you and mingyu would be a perfect match! i'd bet all my money that by the end of the month you two will be together." it was only the start of june and wonwoo doubted that seokmin was right.
"then i'm sorry to disappoint you, but you will lose a whole lot of money." wonwoo leaned his chin on top of his knees, staring straight forward at the window that gave a look on a big tree that grew right in front of it.
birds chirped peacefully and wonwoo had to squint his eyes a little as the upcoming sun shone through the branches, peeking through the window and letting the floor bathe in an orange glow.
"i don't think so. mingyu is definitely going to shoot his shot." seokmin sat, resting his hand on wonwoo's arm who slightly flinched at the sudden skin ship, even when it was just a form of reassurement, "and you just admitted as well that you think he's unreal-"
"-just because he's handsome doesn't immediately mean there are feelings involved! i barely even know him!"
"who's having feelings for who?"
"hey mingyu!" seokmin got up from the bed in a swift movement, walking towards the door where mingyu just walked in, "i was just about to leave, wonwoo and i were discussing about a boy i met once." seokmin covered their conversation up, winking at wonwoo when mingyu turned to him as well.
"that's great! see you downstairs hyung!" mingyu eyed the smiley face of seokmin once more before his silhouette disappeared through the door opening, leaving only him and wonwoo behind in the bedroom. "you haven't found your shoes i see?"
wonwoo shook his head, suddenly finding it hard to speak again. the atmosphere around him seemed so suffocating now it was only him and the intimidating figure of mingyu.
while mingyu, on the other hand, only had good intentions and tried to handle him with as much care as he was capable of. mingyu was aware that wonwoo wasn't exactly social and he was determined to find a way to somehow get closer.
"i really thought i put them here.. oh no! my mistake, i think they're in the closet." and of course, mingyu opened both doors of the closet and revealed wonwoo's pair of sneakers, reaching them out for him. "i'm sorry wonwoo, i really thought i put them in sight for you when you would wake up. guess i'm not exactly the smartest in the morning."
and the thing mingyu saw next was something he would never be able to forget.
wonwoo smiled. even if it was obviously forced, it was the first time ever mingyu had seen him smiling.
even when it was not much longer than five seconds, he seemed to noticed the way his nose scrunched up a little when he revealed his perfectly shaped white canines that seemed to reflect the light of the sun.
"don't be sorry mingyu, happens to the best of us."
and even when wonwoo's smile faded away, the picture was still printed clearly in mingyu's imagination.
and he was determined to make wonwoo smile more often.
