the beach that stretched out alongside the water was now peaceful and calm. the darkness had made place for a completely different atmosphere now the beach wasn't occupied with people. there was no indistinct chattering, nor laughter of children who were busying themselves with sandcastles or games of football.

utter silence mixed with the sound of the humble summer breeze rustling through the leaves above wonwoo and the waves gently crashing on shore.

wonwoo shot his gaze up to the clear night sky where millions of little specks in the universe guarded over him. the bright half rounded moon that watched over him gave him the feeling like he were at home.

what made the atmosphere even more magical were the tiny flecks of light that flew around, making it the first time jeon wonwoo saw fireflies with his own eyes. he had always thought they had to be some sort of mythical creatures as he could barely believe luminous flies existed.

but apparently, they do, making it a night worth to remember.

if wonwoo was the one to decide, he wouldn't have gone to that party at all. he would stay at this spot on the beach, getting a little closer to shore and lay down in the soft sand to stare up, trying to solve all the mysteries the universe kept for him, counting stars and dreaming far away in the world of imagination. he would enjoy the peaceful sounds of the water, take in the salty sea scent and do nothing else but to stare up at the night sky.

however, of course the universe had planned something completely different for him as a familiar voice appeared out of nowhere. wonwoo got harshly pulled back to reality as he jumped a little by the unannounced presence who appeared behind him, making wonwoo question himself for how long he had been there as his back was still turned against the woods.

"wonwoo? is that you?"

wonwoo turned around and faced the familiar tall shape of mingyu as he could barely make out the features of his face in the pitch black surroundings. mingyu could see as much as wonwoo could; barely anything.

"yes." wonwoo managed to bring out as he found it hard to talk to the popular student yet again.

"you came!" mingyu exclaimed, making a step forward to get closer to wonwoo, whose breath hitched instantly upon seeing the taller's silhouette come near him.

"yes." he repeated himself in the same monotone voice he spoke in before.

"i actually didn't expect you to come anymore.. after i've been waiting here for forty five minutes." mingyu softly added the last part, making a rush of guilt fill wonwoo's system. oh no.. he waited exactly forty five minutes in the utter darkness just for wonwoo to come? what if he didn't came at all, how much longer would he have waited in hope for him to show up?

"idiot! you could have gone to the party without me." wonwoo cussed, hiding away his vulnerable side that felt sorry for the taller male.

"but i know you would get lost in the crowd. that's why i waited for you."

wonwoo growled in annoyance, having a hard time to cover up his feeling of guilt. "just go next time."

"well, let's go now!" mingyu answered, his happy attitude towards wonwoo exactly the same as earlier that day at the beach. wonwoo still couldn't understand why someone would be so filled with joy just to see him. however, he silently followed mingyu over the beach.

colorful flashing lights illuminated the beach in the distance, a crowd of at least a good hundred people visible as they got closer. the sound of music and a steady beat hit wonwoo's eardrums once they came nearby.

"the beach was actually so calm back there. if i have to be honest it wasn't that bad to just stare at the sea and wait for you." mingyu admitted, making wonwoo look up at him upon hearing the sound of his voice.

"i bet it's better than a party." wonwoo complained as his body started tensing up on seeing the mass of bodies pressing against each other, swaying on the beat of the music.

just a few more steps and they would blend in the crowd, making wonwoo wish he never came here in the first place. wonwoo wasn't one to enjoy parties. staying at home to engulf himself in a wonderful romance was an activity he rather did instead of getting drunk and mindlessly dancing around.

"are you okay?" mingyu carefully asked, making a stop before entering the crowd.

and even when wonwoo knew he absolutely wasn't, he rolled his eyes and acted as if he was doing alright. "let's just get this over with." he answered, crossing his arms as he motioned his head for mingyu to go ahead, following his tracks so he wouldn't get lost.

and god.

wonwoo hated it.

all those bodies being pressed against him without his consent, nearly having to fucking run to keep up with mingyu who seemed to comfortably get along with everyone around him. when wonwoo thought it couldn't get any worse, someone spilled beer over him, leaving a stain on his jeans that would be hard to remove.

even with the person who accidentally spilled the beverage over him apologizing, wonwoo gave the most terrifying glance he could think off so the guy would keep his distance.

the loud beat drilled through his stomach, making him feel sick. the flashing lights that constantly changed colors drove him insane and made him dizzy to the point where his legs felt like jelly. not to forget about the fact that he didn't exactly knew anyone around.

he suddenly craved for a drink that consisted alcohol, to get his mind off his worries for a bit. maybe that way he would be able to actually enjoy the party. however, wonwoo doubted it..

mingyu stopped walking and wonwoo recognized the familiar faces of hansol, junhui and the smaller boy named chan, who all excitedly waved at the two of them arriving.

"now the party can really start!" mingyu yelled, loud enough to be heard on top of the loud music playing.

right. wonwoo thought.

now the party can really start...
