the black ford was filled with distorted guitars strumming to lively tunes that blasted from the car's stereo, both mingyu and wonwoo humming along with the melody while the car windows were rolled down, allowing the late evening summer breeze to cool down the temprature inside the vehicle. mingyu decided to take a drive around the block, which turned out to be an entire ride through another city where the roads were calm at nearly ten pm.
sun was almost fully set as wonwoo stared out of the window, while the car sped past buildings, convenient stores and houses. he couldn't help but to feel so safe in the said vehicle, that had the scent of mingyu's cologne lingering inside. perhaps it was the atmosphere, the orange pink sky, the chilly air, the music, what made the car ride so magical.
a scenario that resembled a fairytale, a roman, jeon wonwoo's favorite novel maybe.
"we should definitely do this more often." mingyu exclaimed out of a sudden, turning the music a little down so he was able to hear wonwoo's mesmerizing voice a little better. wonwoo looked next to him, tearing his gaze apart from the buildings they passed by.
"definitely." he agreed with mingyu, seeing he absolutely enjoyed being with his friends and mingyu together. "perhaps you should bring hansol, junhui and chan next time. i bet my friends love to meet them."
"i'd love that! they would get along so well!" mingyu bit his lower lip as he focussed on the road in front of him, something that wonwoo caught up on fast enough to find out it was habitual. "have i ever told you how glad i am we met that day at the beach."
wonwoo's cheeks turned a slight shade of crimson on hearing mingyu's words, him looking down at his hands that were folded in his laps to avoid mingyu's almond eyes. "oh shut up, we only met like a week ago or something."
"that doesn't mean i can't be glad we did." mingyu exclaimed, giggling in excitement when he caught a glimpse of wonwoo's embarrassed expression. "no need to get all shy over here, i've heard you talking to your friends so you might as well get comfortable when we're alone."
mingyu flashed his signature canine grin, throwing a glance at wonwoo who looked up as well. "last time i checked i've known them for a few good years already. didn't you just say we met a week ago? i'm not discussing the same things you've overheard me saying to my friends with you."
"sex, you mean?" mingyu bluntly blurted out, making wonwoo nearly choke on his own saliva. "how about, shut up?" wonwoo tried to hide his painted red cheeks behind the curly strands of jet-black hair, wishing dearly for mingyu to miss his flushed expression.
"i'm sorry, i just found it funny to hear you talk so comfortably with your friends, i guess." a chuckle of delight escaped mingyu's lips when he finished his sentence. wonwoo shrugged nonchalantly, staring out of the window again as buildings zipped past in a blur.
"does it bother you?" wonwoo suddenly asked, his insecurities taking over again. he had no clue as to why he blurted out the unexpected question so suddenly, yet he was curious why mingyu had to exclaim it like how he just did.
"no? why would it bother me?" mingyu replies, giving the older boy a glance of calmth. wonwoo shrugged for the second time in over less than a minute, focussing on the details in his jeans. "i don't know. i assumed it might bother you since you've heard me talk more than i ever did to you."
"so you're assuming that i'm jealous?" the boy behind the steering wheel threw a mischievous glance at wonwoo, who instantly perked up and waved his hands as an apologetic gesture. "no! no! it's not that!"
"wonwon, calm down. i know that you find it hard to open up, i've known that since the start and it's absolutely no bother to me. i can't imagine you kissing and cuddling with your friends the way you do with me?"
wonwoo scrunched up his nose as he looked through the windshield, noticing how they drove through a fairly familiar neighborhood. "ew, that would actually be pretty gross." the older boy exclaimed with a disgusted expression painted on his face.
"see? then why would it bother me?" wonwoo let out a long drawn sigh as he let his head lean back against the headrest, eyeing the sky that almost turned dark. "i don't know, i guess it just suddenly came to my mind."
"you should stop thinking so much, silly." with his eyes focussed on the road, mingyu moved his hand up, accidentally brushing his fingers past wonwoo's cheeks before gently caressing his hair. "as long as you remember, that there's nothing to be ashamed of whenever you're around me. you can talk as much as you want and you can also be as quiet as you want, having you in my company is more than enough to me."
with those words being said, mingyu turned around the last block and they drove through a familiar street. the vehicle approached wonwoo's garden and took a stop in front of the seemingly empty house. no lights were turned on and wonwoo doubted if his parents were at home.
mingyu hummed to get wonwoo's attention, having one arm hanging loosely on the steering wheel. "okay?" he tried to confirm, wishing for wonwoo to feel at least comfortable enough to be himself around him.
and the curly head looked up, a small smile displaying on his face as he nodded. "thank you." he gave out as a rather small reply, yet more than enough to make mingyu flash his bright canines.
"no need to thank me silly." mingyu chuckled as he unbuckled his seatbelt, leaning forward as he brought his hand back up to wonwoo's silky-soft curls, gently massaging his scalp. and wonwoo couldn't do anything but to smile thankfully and close his eyes on the wonders mingyu was working on top of his head. a content hum left his mouth and he didn't even flinch when he felt hot breath ghosting over his lips. he even leaned a little in, instead.
"what would you do if i'd kiss you right now?" mingyu asked for permission, letting wonwoo decide whether he wanted it or not. and to mingyu's luck, wonwoo's smile grew wider as he still didn't take the effort to open his eyes.
"i'd kiss you back." wonwoo let out as a bare whisper, feeling how mingyu's lips brushed over his before the distance was entirely closed between them. wonwoo gently moved his hands up to grip mingyu's t-shirt, high up at his collar, on the sensation of their lips moving in unison.
the kiss was passionate yet tender, making wonwoo fall deeper in love while greenway was still playing in the background, concealing the smacking sounds of their lips together. mingyu, however, pulled back soon enough and kept their foreheads pressed against each other, scared things might escalate if they kept going.
"you know, you're a good kisser for someone who has never kissed before." mingyu breathed out, panting a little from the kiss they just shared.
"you're pretty cocky for someone whom you expect to be nice." wonwoo threw back, widening mingyu's smile because of how comfortable he had gotten out of a sudden.
"you should go inside, it's getting late." mingyu winked as he entirely leaned back, buckling up his seatbelts again. wonwoo, however, didn't move a single muscle in his body. "so, you're not staying over?"
"i would love to, but i kind of promised my brother to be home early.. is tomorrow also fine with you? you can text me whenever you want me to be here?" there was a slight trace of disappointment visible on wonwoo's face, however he was quick to recover and nod in agreement.
"yes of course! i'll text you tomorrow. have a safe drive back home, mingyu." wonwoo unbuckled his seatbelt and got out of the vehicle, mingyu carefully watching every movement he made.
"sleep well wonwon."
the car door closed with a loud thud, making mingyu wave for the last time before the vehicle drove away, leaving wonwoo with a feeling of utter warmth and most important, a smile.
