"somi hurry up, please!" wonwoo's voice echoed through the room for the third time when somi refused to leave their shared bedroom, saying she was busy looking for her tiny shovel. was this how kids wanted to impress their new friends these days?
wonwoo let out an annoyed sigh, leaning with his back against the wooden wall in the hallway as he looked at himself in the mirror that hung on the opposite side of him. he was wearing a plain white shirt that hung loosely around his chest together with a pair of grey shorts and his customary silver round specs that stood midway on the bridge of his nose.
his hair seemed wild and untamed as it hung halfway over his eyes, hiding his dark eyebrows behind his messy curls. a little while ago he tried out a perm after he lost a bet with his friends. but with his hair being more straight than his own sexuality and quite heavy it had failed, making the curls bigger than they were supposed to be.
but if he had to be honest, he absolutely did not dislike them and found that they actually suited him pretty well. for once he didn't have to worry about his hair that much, as he could barely style his hair into something different anyways.
the barber shop he went to said it would probably last for at most four months before the curls would vanish and he would return to his former haircut. he might as well get a perm again if he wasn't over them at that point.
"i found it!" wonwoo looked down as saw the little somi waddle in his direction, proudly swaying the small shovel as big as her lower arm in the air. he couldn't help but to smile at the adorable sight of the small girl with a pastel pink bucket hat on top of her jet black hair.
"now, let's go then shall we?" wonwoo said, offering his hand to the small girl to keep her under his protection as she was still little, of course.
"but where are mommy and daddy?" she said, a look of grieve filling her expression. of course. wonwoo thought to himself. when he came home his parents had already left to do some grocery shopping. however, that grocery trip turned out to be a lot longer than expected when he received a text about an hour ago that they were visiting a nearby town. leaving him and his sister behind, as usual.
at this point it wasn't even surprising anymore.
"they're buying us food somi, but your big bro will take care of you, okay?" he tried to convince the little girl, squatting next to her so they were on the same eye level.
fortunately wonwoo's words seemed to work soothing on his little sister as her mood lightened up again, a wide smile appearing on her face that showed the gap of the tooth she had lost the day before they left off to go on vacation.
wonwoo remembered how his parents only found out about it the day after she had lost another one of her calf's teeth, wonwoo being the one to play for tooth fairy the night before. he couldn't bare to see the look of disappointment on her face when the so called 'tooth fairy' would forget her again.
"let's go!" she said, determined reaching for wonwoo's hand and not waiting for him to get up and instantly pulling him with her towards the front door, making wonwoo stumble and nearly fall.
"i really think you're going to like euki, his personality perfectly resembles yours!" wonwoo said, pushing down the door handle and revealing their bodies to the bright light of the sun that fell down on the ground in strokes through the leaves of the tree's high above them.
just when he turned around to close and lock the door he heard the engine of a car approaching. oh no.. he thought to himself when he found the roaring sound oddly familiar. so when the car stopped and he hesitantly turned around his thoughts got confirmed.
"wonwoo! somi! i'm sorry it took mommy and daddy a little longer! how was your party?" his mother approached them both as soon as she got out of the car, wonwoo snorting out of habit which he tried to cover up instantly with a forced smile.
"it was quite okay, i think?" he answered, shrugging nonchalantly. he left out the whole part where he got drunk and got carried back to the lodge by mingyu on purpose, not wanting to make a fool out of himself. it made him feel pathetic that he couldn't even take care of himself at a simple party. his first official one actually.
"where have you been tonight though?" his father joined in after he locked his car, folding his arms over his chest in a way to look more intimidating.
"i slept with that friend i told you about. since you said i could stay away as long as i wanted i assumed it would have been okay if i slept with him." wonwoo made up. the habit he built up since he was a kid to lie without blinking twice actually came in as handy when situations like these appeared.
"well, that's great! i'm glad you had a great night my son, it was only this morning when your mother and i found out you hadn't come home after last night so we already thought it would be something like that!" his father said, joining in on his wife's exaggerated enthusiasm, "so, the two of you are going to the beach i assume?"
"yes! wonwon is taking me!" somi squealed, jumping in excitement as she still clamped onto wonwoo's hand tightly.
"who would have thought our wonwoo would go out this much? i knew this vacation would be fun!" his mother said, making wonwoo roll his eyes in sarcasm as he pulled his little sister along with him.
"come on somi, let's go. euki is probably waiting for us." he said in the same childish voice he always tend to use around his little sister, making her eyes sparkle even more than they already did.
"bye mommy! bye daddy!" she called out, looking back over her shoulder at the perfectly painted picture of both their parents standing side by side, waving at their kids.
yes. wonwoo thought to himself. bye mommy, bye daddy.
