there sat the abandoned boy, staring in the void of the night. he felt nothing but emptiness, as his body lost its strength and he couldn't do much more but sitting with his back against the balcony's railing. to wonwoo it all felt so surreal, as if he just woke up from a bad dream at a particularly weird spot.
as if he could walk home and mingyu would be waiting there for him, huddled up in a blanket while watching a movie. they would share that blanket and eventually when they couldn't keep their eyes opened, they would go upstairs and mingyu would wrap him in his duvets like a cinnamon roll. and to secure him from any form of cold, mingyu would shuffle in between him and the blanket and clamp onto him like a koala bear.
only this time wonwoo knew deep inside that if he came home later, mingyu wouldn't be there to do all that. it would just be him all alone in his parental house as mingyu had most likely picked up his belongings and went back to his apartment.
the summer night suddenly lost all its warmth and the magical atmosphere that the balcony usually held had vanished into something dark and colorless.
"wonwoo? hey, what happened?"
wonwoo looked up to see a worried jeonghan crouching in front of him, with seungcheol leaning against the doorpost. he didn't even notice the tears that kept streaming down his face himself and could only stare back without showing any trace of an emotion.
"wonwoo?" jeonghan repeated himself again when wonwoo's piercing gaze only brought him more sorrow.
"he left.." wonwoo managed to bring out in a bare whisper. if it wasn't for the fact that he was crying, you would have assumed him calm like usual. though perhaps this expression made both jeonghan and seungcheol only worry more.
"oh shit.." seungcheol whispered, being reminded of the way mingyu stepped inside, which seemed completely off to both him and his boyfriend.
"he did what?" jeonghan repeated calmly, wanting to be sure of wonwoo's words before jumping into conclusion.
and even though wonwoo found it hard to put his grieve into actual words, he choked out the same reply again, a little closer to an actual sob this time. "h-he left." he even managed to use some more words. "he broke up with me."
and it was as if with those words wonwoo finally realized what exactly had happened. tears of pain mixed in with those out of loneliness. his body sunk in a little more as he pulled his knees to his chest and hugged his legs, breathy sobs emitting from his lips.
"oh wonwoo.." jeonghan sat down next to him, back against the railing, as he pulled his buddy in a warm and friendly hug. and unlike most times, wonwoo's body loosened up, now mingyu had learnt him the true meaning of hugs. and without using words, jeonghan understood him.
"hey, how about we get you down, wrap you up in a blanket and make you some coffee? you look like you could use some." jeonghan offered, gently ruffling through wonwoo's jet black curls. "you're shivering and i don't want you to catch a cold mid summer."
the broken boy nodded, testing if his legs were strong enough and had the ability to stand on them and walk downstairs. jeonghan was quick to get up first and ran up to seungcheol. "contact mingyu's friends, i want to know who or what is behind all this." he whispered, inaudible for wonwoo to hear, before rushing back to help him get up on his legs.
surprisingly they were steady enough to stand on, and even with his entire body still trembling, wonwoo succeed in getting down the stairs without stumbling even once. of course under guidance of jeonghan behind him and seungcheol in front of him, whose shoulders worked like some sort of fence in case he did fell down.
"i'm going to get you your regular, whipped cream on top?" seungcheol asked while jeonghan guided wonwoo to a chair. all wonwoo could do was give a weak nod in reply, his entire body feeling numb from the amount of grief. his heart ached so much, though he and mingyu hadn't even been together for the longest time.
he just couldn't understand what he had done wrong for mingyu to do such thing.
in full silence, jeonghan had taken a seat on the opposite side of the table, observing wonwoo's sudden outburst. the boy hadn't stopped crying uncontrollably since they found him abandoned on the dark balcony, an emotion jeonghan wasn't quite familiar with when it came to him. soon seungcheol joined them with a steaming cup of latte and a generous amount of whipped cream on top.
he gave wonwoo a sympathetic pat on his shoulder as he took the seat next to wonwoo instead of his own boyfriend, which jeonghan only watched over with a small but proud smile.
and while wonwoo kept on sobbing and the two other occupants around the table remained silent, seungcheol reached for his phone and added a few of his contacts to a certain groupchat. he purposely left his phone screen out of wonwoo's eyesight, not wanting to make things worse than they already were.

i'm guessing that at this point you all already know what happened between mingyu and wonwoo.
so i'd like to get a proper explanation.
and when i find out any of you has caused this, you're no longer welcome in my cafe.
