the peaceful chirping of the birds outside reached wonwoo's ear through the opened window. that, combined with a stroke of sunlight that beamed upon his face through the blinds were the things that woke wonwoo up on this calm wednesday morning.

it was only when he rolled around and noticed the bed of his sister was already empty when he realized she hadn't awoken him earlier, which was a huge surprise to him. usually when they shared a room on vacation she would be the one waking him up around six am, only to let him know she was about to watch some stupid childish cartoon on the television and her big brother had to join.

and oh.. the torture he had to undergo when he refused.. because his four year old sister might seem all cute and tiny, but when it came to getting what she wanted she would use violence.

it felt odd she already left her bed without forcing wonwoo to wake up as well. but on the other hand, maybe their parents finally realized how parenting worked. perhaps that's why she let wonwoo sleep for so long.

and he indeed slept much longer than usual, because when he checked the digits on his lock screen he found out it was already past ten am. he allowed himself to dive back into the softness of his pillow to enjoy the calm atmosphere that hung in the room.

however, his moment of relaxation didn't last long, because all out of sudden he realized there was something else he had seen on his lock screen. a certain text message he was absolutely not expecting at all.

wonwoo propped himself up on his elbows and reached for his phone again, nearly dropping it in a haste. he turned on the screen and felt his breath hitching in the back of his throat when he realized he had seen it correctly in the first place.

k.mingyu
hey wonwoo:)
have you slept well?
i'm going to the beach really early today so i might not reply a lot
or maybe not at all😬
but i hope to see you again today !!

the texts had been delivered to him about an hour ago, meaning mingyu and his friends had to be at the beach already. wonwoo considered to show up a bit earlier today. he might take somi with him again as well so she could play with euki.

but he also took it in consideration to let his parents do the task for a day so wonwoo could feel like a teenager without having the burden of somi.

that's actually a great idea! wonwoo thought to himself, pushing himself up from the bed and stretching his arms above his head, making his muscles pop one by one. when he managed to fully get up, he slumped his way to the closet to pick an outfit for the day.

the warm summer breeze that blew in the room through the opened window was warm enough to wear something identical to the day before. this time, he picked another oversized white shirt that reached his thighs together with loose shorts.

when he finished with putting on his round specs and ruffling through his hair, which was untamed and curly like always, he opened the bedroom door that directly led to the living room.

somi was, as expected, situated in the corner of the couch, her attention focused on the tv where a cartoon was playing. she was so caught up in the illustrated characters that she didn't even noticed wonwoo's presence.

wonwoo on the other hand decided to let her be and walked up straight to his parents, who were seated at the kitchen table. flyers of historical monuments and other activities were spread out over the wooden surface of the table as his parents pointed them one by one, deciding which one they were going to visit first.

"i think i want to go her- oh wonwoo! your dad and i are going to visit town again today, you don't mind taking care of your sister, right?" his mother said, her voice sounding so overly excited that it made wonwoo want to throw up his breakfast he had yet to eat.

no. he didn't want to look after his sister again. "well, i actually-" "-it's not like you have planned anything! you're always at home, locking yourself in your room with a book or something. sometimes i wonder if you even have friends in school at all." both his parents laughed about his father's painful remark, acting as if his words were actually funny.

but in reality, they came off as extremely offensive to wonwoo. "you're kidding me right?" he said followed by a sarcastic chuckle, looking at his parents in disbelieve, "if you actually weren't so busy with that stupid business of yours you would have noticed that i actually meet up with my friends from school regularly. and not that it is any of your business, but yes, i actually planned something for today. because i'm meeting someone at the beach."

silence filled the atmosphere and wonwoo felt like his words finally got to his parents. but oh, he had been so wrong. because the only reaction he received from both adults were snorts and laughter, as if everything he had just told them had been a complete joke. "so? why are you complaining then? can't you take your sister with you?"

"you're never at home!" wonwoo tried to keep his volume down so his sister could continue watching the show without having any sorrows, "you literally dump her at our grandparents all the time, can't you be an actual parent to her for once? don't you ever think about the consequences it might have when she grows up? she wouldn't be able to bare with it if she knows about the way you're both treating her. you know what, suck it. i'm going to the beach."

"jeon wonwoo! language!" both without waiting for a further reply wonwoo stormed to the front door, aggressively slamming it back in its frame when he got outside, blowing off the steam after his heated argument with his parents. how could they. talk like that about his social life and use him to babysit the child they produced themselves.

was it really that hard to fulfill their parenting task for once?

however, wonwoo was determined to see mingyu today. his stupidly silly personality never failed to get his mind off things. how annoying he might find it sometimes.

or did he?
