"mingyu.. i think we got an issue.." wonwoo was just done with changing into his sleeping wear and brushing his teeth in the bathroom down the hallway as he opened the bedroom door with a soft creak.
mingyu's head peered up from his phone on an instant, visibly finding this issue not that bad. instead, he actually found it quite adorable.
now wonwoo, in his tired state, accidentally grabbed a wrong piece of clothing before he entered the bathroom. earlier that day, when he picked up some clothes, mingyu offered to stack them on a shelf in the closet he used. and since wonwoo only had taken two pairs of clothing with him, he placed them down on an empty spot next to mingyu's.
which was where it went wrong.
because now he stood in the middle of the room, wearing a plain white shirt that reached midway his thighs, hanging loose around his shoulders and chest as it wasn't made for his body type. on the right side of his chest there was a little text written in japanese, which he couldn't read since wonwoo never learnt how to speak the language. it was understandable he made the mistake since the shirt resembled one of his. but that didn't take away the embarrassment he felt.
"i swear it's been a mistake! i can change if you want me to but seokmin went into the bathroom right after me to take a shower." wonwoo apologized, nervously fidgeting with the hem of the shirt "i should wait on him, please don't wait for me i know you're tired and you should definitely go to sleep so you won't be exhausted tomorrow."
however, mingyu couldn't help but to adorate the view and wonwoo's rambling. "wonwoo, come on. do you actually think i would mind you sleeping in my clothes? damn, look at you! it looks so good on you!" in his enthusiasm he shuffled to the edge of the bed, propping his elbows on his knees as he rested his chin in his hands.
"but.. don't you think it's weird that i'll be sleeping in your pajamas? no no no, i'm changing as soon as seokmin's done in the bathroom. i don't want you to-"
"-wonwoo," mingyu giggly interrupted the panicked boy, who went quiet immediately "i just told you that i don't mind. and if i have to be honest with you, i don't even want you to sleep in your own pajamas when you look extremely good in my clothes."
wonwoo awkwardly ruffled through his curly jet black hair, looking down at the colorful socks he was wearing. they seemed to be more colorful than his personality and wonwoo wondered if that thought should rather be concerning or reassuring.
he felt like his feet were glued to the ground, knowing mingyu's eyes were still scanning his appearance since the younger never went silent for no specific reason. until he heard mingyu clearing his throat, making wonwoo lift his head with much hesitation.
"hey, if you feel uncomfortable in it you can change in here as well. i can turn around if you want me to," mingyu offered, being the gentleman he is "you know i wouldn't do anything without your consent first."
"you literally undressed me on the beach yesterday, don't give me that excuse!" wonwoo couldn't help but to laugh about his own statement.
there it is again. mingyu thought to himself. the way his nose wrinkled cutely whenever he laughed, or how his perfectly sharp canines were visible when he opened his mouth a little. not even to start about the deep sound that escaped his throat, which sounded better than music to mingyu's ears.
"i- you get the point i'm trying to make! we were literally at a beach surrounded by friends! i'm half naked at the beach all day, it's just strange when you're wearing clothes! i only wanted you to swim with me! being situated in a bedroom when undressing is something different!" mingyu excused himself, trying to save himself with the right choice of words.
"different? it's no difference when you still have to see my body." wonwoo defended his own opinion.
"wait." mingyu excited expression died down a little when he understood wonwoo's words, cocking a brow "it's about your body isn't it?"
wonwoo sighed, trying to look at anything else in the room beside mingyu, "where do you want me to sleep tonight though? there's only one bed." he changed the subject.
"you can sleep here! it's a double bed, perfect for the two of us." mingyu exclaimed, crawling underneath the blanket and patting the bedside next to him.
wonwoo nodded in confirmation, clicking off the main light in the room which left them in the bare light of the lamp on mingyu's bedside table. without spilling more words wonwoo lay down on the spot next to mingyu, awkwardly staring up at the ceiling as he rested his hands on his chest on top of the blanket.
"wonwoo?" mingyu asked the elder, in which wonwoo hummed in response "why are you so insecure about yourself?"
"i don't know." wonwoo answered in all honesty, finding the courage to turn to mingyu and see he had already been in that position as well "i think it's the fact that i compare myself too much to those around me. take you for an example! compared to you i'm barely anything."
the amount of disappointment in wonwoo's voice pained mingyu. "why?"
"i'm sorry, i shouldn't even be telling you all this." wonwoo muttered, crawling a little further underneath the blanket to protect himself against whatever could happen next, mingyu's disapproval for example.
"please stop apologizing." mingyu remarked, his expression remaining serious "and you really should't compare yourself to others, especially not to me."
"how can i not?"
"because i'm not as perfect as the picture most have painted of me." mingyu admitted, the tone in his voice slightly frightening wonwoo who had no idea what the meaning behind it was, "when i look at you, i see something beautiful and something that makes me happy. i see past all those insecurities you describe about yourself. to me they don't even exist. whatever flaws or imperfections you're talking about need to be invisible because i honestly don't see them. and i don't say that to make you feel better, i say that because i honestly like you in every single aspect."
even when the distance was unwanted by both, they finally felt enough to someone. and they revel in each other's presence.
