Club was very different. He was quiet first of all. He was really smart but he didn't like to show it. He liked o read and his writing was nothing to scoff at either.
Sometimes I'd catch him absently chipping at the bone on his wrists. When I asked him... he denied it. I worried about that. We were getting closer but I still didn't feel like he was really... open?
I didn't really understand his tendencies. I sighed softly. Jessie was with Error and Heart. Those two were really close to. They had even kissed.
I rubbed the back of my neck. It had been such and unbelievably long week. To many meetings. I was tired to the bone.
Club was here waiting for Heart to return. It was a nice quiet day. Until Clubs phone rang.
Club jumped and scrambled to grab his phone. He pushed his glasses up. "Hello?"
I couldn't hear the other side of the conversation. I got uo and made it seem like I was getting something.
"-late. You already spent so long just trying to be successful and look where that got you!! You need to learn to be more family oriented Club! Honestly!"
Club winced. "Heart is out ight now too... "
"Heart didn't spend half our life being an asshole obsessed with being the best." The words were harsh. I winced at the curse.
Club winced. "Spade that isn't fair. You always have Blaine over..."
"That's different!"
I had had enough. I gently took the phone and frowned. " Hey sorry. Listen Club is pretty busy right now. He'll call you back when he's done having time to himself outside of work and pleasing you! Bye."
Club stared up at me from the couch. His mouth twitched up and he burst into giggles. "I-I didn't know you could be that passive aggressive. Your voice sounded so sincere. "
I flushed pink and set the phone to charge. "Yeah well... they shouldn't treat you like that." I frowned.
He wasn't smiling anymore. "Spade means well! I swear. He just. He's got a lot of pressure to live up to our dads name... and he was kinda right."
I found that hard to believe. This man? A jerk? Really?
"You don't look good when you frown," Club whispered.
My face heated slightly. "Oh?"
He nodded lightly. Is he leaning in? Am I leaning in?
Club brought his hand up and gingerly touched my cheek. And then we were kissing. It was sweet and short. We pulled away shortly after. Our first kiss. My first kiss.
He gave a soft smile as his face practically glowed.
I found myself returning the smile.

I swear Spade isn't an asshole. I swear. I promise. He and Club have had a rocky relationship and it's still healing. Also.... The ship name is Subway and you can't tell me otherwise.
