A Glimpse

Just a glimpse into the future where Jess is older.

   I yawned lightly and opened my eyes. The room was still dark. How early was it? A quick glance at the alarm clock told me it was 6 AM. Ugh.
   Club had one arm thrown over me. The one with his ring on. I pressed a light kiss to his knuckles and wiggled out of bed.
   I pulled on some slippers and my shades and headed out. The hallway was lit. Jess must be awake.
   I headed toward the kitchen. If I'm going to be awake this early I might as well make breakfast. The kitchen light was on as well. Someone was in there.
   He turned. His hair was dark. He was tall. In this light he looked just like.
   My breathing picked up. I took a step back as my soul skipped. No. Impossible.
   "Andrew..." My voice was too soft. Too weak. Not enough to be heard even by myself. The only sign that I actually said it was the hiccup in my breathing.
  "Dad? I didn't know you were up..." Jessie mumbled. He looked like he was ready to go out.
   Dad..? Oh. It's Jessie. But...he looked just like... I shook my head to clear it. "I just woke up."
   "Are you okay...? You look like you saw a... a ghost..." he blinked snd touched his own face. "I'm sorry. I haven't shaved." He looked away.
   "No no no! Jessie It's not your fault!" I insisted. "You just spooked me that's all." I stepped closer. "It's okay kiddo."
   "Are you sure? I can go shave real quick?" his voice was small.
   How could I see him in Jessie? Jessie's eyes were kind. He never appeared threatening. "I'm positive kiddo." I ruffled his hair gently.
   He gave a smile. "Alright then. What do you want for breakfast. Ill make it."
   "Waffles. They're Clubs favorite." I took a seat at the table and put my head down. Maybe I can get a few more minutes of sleep. That would be nice.
