Hunched over your desk, you stared intently at the slightly crumpled paper in your hand. As you look at the words written on the page, you start to remember where it all began at the age of four when you first started showing signs of your quirk manifestation.

"Mom! Can you make this purple—and that green?" You pleaded, quivering with anticipation. As your mom held the spoon in her hand, you watched mouth agape as purple started to spread from the center and eventually envelop the entire spoon.

You squealed with delight and grabbed the now purple spoon, waving it around as your mom smiled and said, "Okay, y/n, one more color, and then we have to clean up."

You pointed at the plant on the dining room table and said, "Red!" as the plant started to turn red, you quickly changed your mind saying, "Wait, no!—yellow!" The plant, completely red now, sat on the table, almost taunting you and, you frown back at it. Still staring back at the plant, you feel a hand on your head.

"Sorry kiddo, what's done, is done." Your dad smiles at you and sits down at the table. He reaches over and hovers his hand next to the leaves, you watch as the once droopy leaves rise as light releases from your dad's palm.

"But I want yellow..." You pout, still examining the plant.

As your dad laughs and walks into the kitchen to help your mom with dinner, he says, "Maybe you'll just have to change it yourself."

As soon as your dad disappears from your view, you hastily grab the plant and stare at it intensely. Suddenly a blotchy yellow-orange color appears in the center of the plant.

You leap from the table and run into the kitchen, squealing, "Look! Look!" Both of your parents stare down at you, then glance at the plant in your hands. Their eyes widen, and their mouths form small 'o's. You smile smugly as your parents shower you with affection and praise you, pulling you into a giant hug.

Your mom saying, "You got your quirk! I'm so proud!" and your dad replying with, "I'm still jealous that you inherited your mom's quirk."

Your mom hits your dad's arm playfully and reaches to take the plant from your hands but stops when she notices the leaves of the plant wilting.

Your dad notices this sudden development, and a huge grin develops on his face, "Guess we got a two-for-one."

You smile softly—as you recall one of your earliest memories and once again stare back at the paper in your hands. Slowly you scrunch your nose and frown as you continue to stare, seemingly lost in thought.

"Hey, whatcha got there?" your mom peers over your shoulder and reads the words written on the paper, "Why I want to become a hero... what's all this about y/n? I thought you weren't sure about becoming a hero?"

"Yeah!" your dad pops his head in your doorway, continuing with, "even though we've told you over and over that your quirk is perfect for a hero," he smirks, raising an eyebrow.

Both of your parents look at you expectantly as you open your mouth saying nothing, still trying to think of an answer to the question that you had been struggling with for the past thirty minutes. Before the silence lasts any longer and becomes awkward, you say sheepishly, "Well, I just figured since I have the ability... why not?"

Your parents exchange a glance, then your dad shouts enthusiastically, "That's the spirit kiddo, I know you can become one badass hero!" You raise your eyebrow quizically at his sudden use of language and smirk to yourself.

Your mom shoots your dad a glare, then turns to look at you and says, "You know that we'll always support you but just make sure that this is your dream that you're working for and something that you want to do."

You fidget a little in your chair as doubt creeps up on you. Suddenly your e/c eyes harden. You turn around, grab a pen, and start writing on the paper on your desk. After you've finished, you proudly hand the paper to your parents that says, "because I can." and state, "This is my resolve, I will become a hero, and I will train hard to achieve my dream."

Wordlessly, your parents stare at the paper. Both, wondering how their child with a lack of motivation normally, suddenly declared their aspirations with such a strong will. As they look up, two giant smiles are plastered on their faces, and your mom says, "I'm glad."

They hand back the paper, and they walk out of your room saying goodnight, and closing the door behind them. You give the piece of paper in your hands one last glance before folding it up and slipping it inside your backpack as a silent reminder to yourself.

Seated at your desk, you think to yourself, 'why did I say that?! I don't even have that much power if I'm honest. I mean sure my scores are high enough, and I can apply to as many schools as possible, but it's not like I legitimately thought about becoming a hero. Now my parents are expecting me to become one!? I can't disappoint the proud look they both had on their face—little do they know I only said hero because I recently saw a video of All MIght. AUGH! I'm such an idiot!.'

Your thoughts continue to spiral when you suddenly realize, 'I listed all the schools... does that mean?' As you pull out the list of potential schools you had in your notebook, your heart skips a beat when it lands on U. A. High School.

'What was I thinking? Was I doing it as a dare or a joke—that's the only reasonable explanation. I already told my parents that I had resolve, but U.A. has a really low acceptance rate—I don't even know if I have full control of my quirk yet, seeing that I'm a pretty lazy person...'

You glance at the clock on your desk and notice that it's already 11:30 and decide that you should get some sleep before the first day of your third year tomorrow. As you shut off the light and crawl into bed, you think to yourself, 'I have a lot of work to catch up on, but I know I can do it... I think.'

A/N

Hey, so this is my first time writing a fanfic so I'm sorry if it sucks lmao. I'll probably publish the first ten chapters and if anyone actually reads it then I'll keep working on the rest. But anyways yeah thanks for reading! (oh yeah, I probably won't do that many authors notes but if I do I'll try to put them at the end of the chapter)
