1.40 The Phantom and Fights

"It'll be fine." JJ reassured Esperanza,"It'll be fine with the Phantom. She'll get out quick."

"Whoa, whoa, whoa." Esperanza called out pressing down on the breaks hard as cop cars sped past them,"They're still looking. It's a good sign."

"There she be." JJ said uncovering the phantom,"Hey, girl. A 1983 Formula 402 SR1. The Phantom." JJ explained to the girls.

"Mm-hm." Esperanza hummed before clicking her tongue and exchanging unimpressed looks with Kie.

"The first boat to make the run to Bermuda in under 16 hours, Babe. Forty years old! Forty. And still the fastest thing that Kildare's ever seen." JJ said turning to the girls.

"It's kind of a junker." Kie said as Esperanza snickered.

"Really? She's right there, Kie." JJ said defensively,"She can hear you. Let's just put it this way. You would not be smokin' weed right now if she never existed, okay?"

"I just hope it runs." Esperanza sighed.

"Oh, no, she'll run all right. She's faster than any cutters the boys in blue got." JJ explained as a motorcycle approached.

"Pope. Finally." Esperanza said letting out a breath of relief as she left the garage, running into Barry and Rafe as Rafe held a gun pointed right at her. Esperanza raising her hands up before slowing backing into the garage, JJ and Kie looking at her confused as she glanced over at them,"Rafe. What are you doing?"

"Hey, there. What's goin' on?" Rafe said to the group,"JJ? How you guys doin'?" JJ and Kie going to run the other way as Rafe lowered the gun from Esperanza before Barry went around the boat catching JJ and Kie.

"Whoo-hoo!" Barry whistled, before clearing his throat,"Well, well..." Rafe cocked his gun at JJ as Esperanza turned to them worriedly,"See, don't think I forgot about me and you on the side of the road. I'm here because I want my mother fuckin' money."

"JJ! JJ!" Esperanza yelled, trying to run to him before getting pushed into the wall by Rafe as he held her by her throat with the gun, not tight enough to be choking her,"Rafe you're scaring me!"

"That's what I'm here for!" Barry said to JJ.

"It's not you we want, Esperanza." Rafe told her,"Where's John B?"

"I don't know!" Esperanza said while smacking him, Rafe said retorting to kneeing her in the stomach.

JJ hit Barry trying to knock him off to get to Esperanza,"Phew!" He chuckled," I really wish you didn't do that."

"You gonna kill me like you killed her, I know what you did, Rafe." Esperanza warned.

"What? What did I do?" Rafe questioned her.

"You shot Peterkins." Esperanza said in a low tone, Rafe slapping her across the face as hard as he could as he tightened his group around her throat,"You killed Peterkins like Ward killed my father. With a trigger. You could've been better. You could've tried. But you killed her." She choked out.

"Listen..." Barry said as JJ grunted,"Where is my money? Huh?"

Esperanza yelped as Rafe slammed her into the wall again,"Don't you ever say those fucking words again."

"Fuck off!" Esperanza choked out as she cried. She felt completely terrified in this moment. But all she knew, was that JJ was getting hurt. And she wanted to protect him. She needed to protect him.

"Understand?" Rafe grunted as he slapped her at the lack of response,"Do you understand?" Esperanza nodded in response as tears escaped her eyes,"Where's John B?"
