Your dog barks, sticking his head out of the window of your car. "At least someone's in a good mood." You comment, keeping your eyes on the road. "As for me, I'm worried about the fact that we're completely lost."

The car sputters, and you glance down at the gas meter, seeing that it was close to empty. "That's not good." You stop the car, causing your dog to turn back to you and whine. "It's okay, Sparky. I'm just looking for a gas station, and then we'll be back on the road."

Sparky barks and hops out of the car, running around on the dusty ground. You clamber out after him, and immediately sense a change in the air. Contrary to the green fields you had been driving through for the past few hours, the entire area was barren and blasted. "This place looks fun."

You rub your shoulders, feeling a chill run through you. "I should've asked someone for another route." Even as you say that, you know that was a stupid thought. There was one route through this area, right through the place where locals screamed about crazed rumors. It was impossible. "Next time, I'm going to Wutai as a road trip."

Sparky suddenly tenses, his golden fur rising up. You notice and turn towards the hound, watching him tense. "What's up, boy?" The dog doesn't look at you, when he suddenly springs off, bounding into the fog. "What the-Sparky!"

You run after him, barreling past petrified trees and charred rocks, as the dog tears toward some unknown destination. "Sparky, get back here! Right now."

The dog suddenly screeches to a stop in front of a large rock, before trotting around to the south side. He began to bark and dig, grabbing your attention. "What are you sniffing at, Sparky? Why did you make me run...?" Your voice falters as you see what your dog is tunneling at.

There was a human arm buried under the rock.

"What in the name of-what's going on?" Without thinking, you kneel down and began to rip away chunks of dirt. The rock was surprisingly hollow, and within a few minutes, the ground beneath it had been emptied out.

You take a deep breath, and grab the arm, pulling with all your strength, and praying that you didn't find a disembodied arm. Then you gasp and fall back, something coming loose. "Please tell me there's a body attached to this arm."

Sparky began to whine, causing you to look down. There had been a man under the rock, completely shirtless, with long, stringy gray hair, and enough wounds crisscrossing his body to make Frankenstein's monster jealous. You just stared, completely taken back, as Sparky began licking the man on the face, cleaning off dry bits of blood.

"I should probably check if he's alive." You mumble, kneeling down, and placing two fingers on the side of his neck. "I severely doubt it though. From the rumors I've heard, everything's been dead out here for four months-"

The slow beat of a pulse shocks you. "Wait, he is alive!" Sparky barks and paws at the ground, as you stand up, lifting the man up with you. "And he's heavy. Great." You grunt and start back toward your car, chewing your lip all the way. "Man I hope I have enough gas left."

By the time you got back to your car, everything was on fire. You tore open the back door, and laid the man on the backseat, before getting in the front. "Come on, Sparky. We need to go."

Sparky scrambles into the front sear, and you start the car once more, driving back towards the nearest town. A groan punctuates the quiet in your car and you fight the urge to glance behind you. Sparky begins to whine again and that makes you even more worried. "Hang on there. Help is on the way."

You barely arrive in town before your gas tank completely runs out. Sparky leaps out of the car and rushes down the street to a small, nondescript building, barking rapidly. "Good boy."
