(Warning: some mentions of heavy stuff at the end.)

The whispers in the bandit base were spreading like wildfire. You sit on a ledge, brush feathers off your legs, and watch everyone rush about, the mutterings getting louder.

"Is it an ex-SOLDIER?" "No there's no way. It's something different." You roll your eyes. Mindless gossip. These morons have no idea what the world can hold.

Your hawk, Rainier, lands on your shoulder, a note in his beak. You grab the note and scan it. "That's the boss's handwriting. Another note." You mutter. "Come to lower level immediately."

A yawn escapes your throat as you stand up, the bracelets holding rare materia on your arm jangling with the movement. Some were empty, as your boss had preciously asked you to borrow some of it, specifically the Binding materia.

"I wonder what he wants now." You grumble, crossing your arms. Recently, the bandits you were a part of had raided what was thought to be an abandoned, mostly empty Shinra warehouse, that they soon discovered was neither abounded nor mostly empty.

The raid party had left with weapons, gil, supplies and strangely, a prisoner. You roll your eyes again as you continued downward, Rainier balancing on your should. "No doubt he bit off more than he can chew once again. What did I tell him last-"

Your angry rant dies in your throat as two bandits rush by, holding what looked like a broken body. "That's...concerning." Rainier caws in agreement, just as you cross a corner and almost run into your boss, standing in front of a tightly locked door.

He grabs your arm with a frantic look in his eyes, as you stare back at him with a bored expression. "Where's my materia?" You snap, tapping your foot. Your boss coughs and smiles awkwardly in response. "Uhm, well, about that. It's being used for the prisoner."

An incoherent demonic screech comes from behind the door and you turn around, staring your boss down. "Boss. What was in that warehouse?" He bites his lip and hums. "It wasn't old Shinra soldiers in that warehouse."

"Then what WAS IT?" You hiss, before another scream cuts you off. Rainier hops onto your head, his feathers ruffled. Your boss sighs.

"Something called Deepground." He whispers quietly.

You cuss under your breath, and push him aside, entering the room to see a whole new sight. The dungeon in the bandit base had always been disgusting due to abandonment, with rats and cockroaches running about. But now there was a glowing, electrical mesh over one of the cell doors and the cell itself, coming from your Binding materia. All that didn't faze you at all.

No, what fazed you somewhat was the prisoner, a shadowy man, ramming their entire body into the mesh, trying to break free. You tilt your head, watching the man attempt to escape. "You seem familiar..." You muse.

Then it hits you and you jump two feet in the air, causing Rainier to squawk and take off. Your boss had followed you into the room, and you turn around, grabbing his shirt. "Boss" You try to keep your voice even. "Do you know who that is?"

Your boss shakes his head and you laugh chillingly, before whipping back around. The man stops his escape attempts and stares back at you with a cold, violet gaze, the metallic wings on his back fluttering ever so slightly. You shudder and immediately turn away. It was clear now.

"Boss, that's a Tsviet. And not just any Tsviet." You take a deep breath. "Somehow, you idiots captured the second in command of DEEPGROUND! That's Nero the Sable! YOU'VE DOOMED US ALL!"

At the call of his name, the man behind the cell bristles, shadows wreathing around him. Your boss goes completely pale, and coughs, before fainting. Rainier shot into the rafters, ramming painfully into a beam, and you groan, feeling Nero's glare burn into your back. "Well isn't this just great." You mutter.
