Angst Alphabet: Ardyn

Image is from FFXV's Christmas promotion, and I'm putting it here because it's probably one of the funniest things I have ever seen.

A— Anger (what makes them angry?
How do they deal with the anger?)

Probably anyone talking about the Founder King/Somnus, and "how great he was". Basically, just praising Somnus, or any of the Lucian kings. Considering Ardyn's not usually in Insomnia, it's probably not that common of an occurrence, but it's still notable. He probably deals with it by daemonifying the nearest person and then going off to sulk for a bit.

B— Bad Habits (what bad habits do they have?)

Drinking. I'd imagine daemonified humans have a slightly higher alcohol tolerance than normal humans, so Ardyn's not getting blackout drunk all the time. I's probably enough to drown out whatever's annoying him, or so he can wallow in his misery more easily.

C— Can't (what can't they do? Is it a moral thing or some skill they just never learned?)

Ardyn's basically a compulsive liar, so probably having an actual conversation without lying through his teeth is definitely up there. He also trusts no one (for obvious reasons), so there's that.

D— Death (How do they die? With family or alone? How does their partner find out?)

Ardyn is immortal unless killed by Noctis, so death isn't really a thing that fazes him. At the end of XV, his soul is basically disintegrated in the afterlife, and at that point, he honestly doesn't give a flip either way.

E— Embarrassed (what embarrasses them?)

Beating him at chess. It's one of Ardyn's favorite pastimes, and I'd like to imagine he thinks he's the best at it. So, getting him into check would probably end up with him a little flustered.

F— Fake (what do they fake? An emotion? A lack of emotions?)

All of the above.

G— Guilty (what do they feel guilty about? why?)

Not realizing Somnus was a maniac much sooner. Considering the guy LITERALLY BURNED PEOPLE ALIVE, it was a wonder how Ardyn didn't see it sooner, but hey he was happy and in love, give him a break.

H— Heartbreak (how did they deal with heartbreak? which time effected them the most?)

Ardyn lost his fiancée, entire kingdom, and life within the span of about two hours. He's clearly never recovered from that.

Especially since he had about 2,000 years in chains to reflect on all that.

I— Insecure (what are their insecurities?)

Ardyn's not exactly a fellow with insecurities. He's quite chill, but if I had to put one, probably someone getting under his skin.

J— Jealous (what makes them feel jealous of others?)

Watching Noctis literally get everything that was stolen from him. Although I'm not sure if I should include this, considering Ardyn basically steals all of it back.

K— Kill (what have they killed? any people? dreams? an animal?)

...hang on kids.

Lunafreya, her brother, everyone he's ever daemonified, Regis inadvertently, Prompto's emotional stability, Ignis's eyesight, Ifrit's free will, Somnus's spirit at one point, etc. There's provably much, much, MUCH more.

L— Lost (what have they lost?)

His fiancée, his kingdom, his soul, his mental stability.

M— Memory (what's their best and worst memories?)

Ardyn's best memory is probably one of Aera and him spending time together and generally being the most adorable thing ever. Seriously, they're so cute.

As for worst, probably Somnus's coup, or the 2,000 years on Angelgard.

N— Nightmare (do they have them? what are they about? Reactions?)

I'm not even sure Ardyn sleeps.

But if he was going to have night terrors, they'd probably be about Aera's death.

O— Obsolete (do they feel like they've been replace or could/should be? Do they feel like they aren't useful?)

Ardyn was replaced, by his douche of a brother. And he was told that to his face.

At first, he was probably in some sort of depression about the betrayal of the gods but by now he probably could care less.

P— Past (how has their past change them, has it made them better or worse?)

What do you think? Obviously for the worse, Ardyn went from a crown prince to a very charming nutjob.

Q— Question (do they question themselves a lot? do other question them? Do they question others?)

Everyone definitely questions Ardyn's motives (because duh) and he knows that. He probably prides himself on that honestly, considering he likes it when he freaks people out.

R— Regret (what do they regret in life?)

Not realizing Somnus's garbage sooner and preventing Aera's death. I'd also like to think Ardyn somewhat regrets killing Lunafreya, as she looks close to Aera and that had to hurt.

S— Snake (have they ever betrayed someone? ever been betrayed? How did they react?)

Both. Somnus threw a coup against his brother FOR NO REASON, the gods agreed with the pyromaniac and chained Ardyn up.

He also betrayed Niflheim, when he finally got a chance to.

T— Tears (what makes them cry?)

Thinking about Aera, or his really messed up past. The betrayals, Somnus being a little brat, etc.

U— unmovable (What opinion will never change, not matter what goes against them?)

The Lucis bloodline needs to end. That's it. Ardyn hates all of them, and hw probably doesn't care if Noctis is the only one who can kill him. They all need to go.

V— Vicious (what makes them vicious, do they try to hide it or overcome it?)

*Insert member of the Lucian bloodline here*

Also Prompto. I'm not sure about that one but Ardyn hates Prompto. Probably because of Verstael.

W— Weak (what makes them feel weak? How do they avoid it?)

The utter hopelessness of his entire situation. I'm not sure what he can do to avoid it, besides daemonification or wine.

X— X-Ray (what's going on inside? Both health wise and mentally, are they okay? Do they need some help?)

Ardyn's main character trait is being psychotic under a charming facade. He's literally made of lies and plague, and he's half daemon.

Ignoring the Starscourge  in his veins, Ardyn ranks on the lower spectrum of healthy weight, and he dresses and looks like he's homeless.

Y— Yearn (what is one thing they want that they know they can't have?)

His fiancée. Poor guy really misses her.

Z— Zero (what would they do if it were their last moments on earth?)

Ardyn didn't even die on earth, but if he was, there'd probably involve something snarky said about his situation. He'd probably add something about Aera and either collapse into nothing or blow away in the wind like he never existed.

Well that was fun. I've been having a real awful day, and something tells me writing this didn't help.
