*Kicks headcanons at you*
*******
The first night, one grim reaper showed.
Of course, it freaked you out. Looking out your window and coming face to face with a chattering skeleton was NOT what you were expecting. You immediately slam the curtain shut, panic running through you. They can't come into the house, right? No, of course, they can't.
You question reporting the stray monster to your work but you decide against it. You're the secretarial advisor to Emperor Aldercapt, not a member of the army. It's not your problem to question if General Glauca, Verstael, WHOEVER couldn't keep tabs on their creatures.
The daemon is there the entire night, just...standing outside your door. The next morning, it's gone.
Must've been a nightmare. You think, grabbing your bag to go to work. It's been crazy recently, what with all the new territorial gains and issues in the budget. Thoughts about everything run rapid-fire through your brain as you arrive at the Keep, holding your head down and trying to get to your office.
Did you exactly like working for the Emperor? It certainly paid well, the Empire covered your living expenses, Aldercapt himself wasn't the worst boss you've ever had, you had made a few friends of servants and Commander Aranea and for the most part, most of the other officials never really bothered you-
"Oh, THERE you are, y/n!"
You stop in place and groan silently. Except one. One Niflheim official always made it his job to bother you.
You barely slow down enough to let the Chancellor catch up. Ardyn was, in your opinion, a pest. He tried to treat you like his subordinate (which wasn't even accurate, you answered to Aldercapt), no one was even sure what he did in Niflheim, and if it wasn't for the fact that he could talk his way out of any diplomatic issue, you were SURE he'd be fired by now.
But Aldercapt kept him around, which meant he wasn't going to stop bothering you anytime soon.
"Did you need something, Chancellor?" You mutter, trying to remember where your office was. Why does every door in this building look the SAME? And why do they all look the same in THIS scenario? Ardyn walks up beside you, looking more smug than usual, which never boded well.
"Why, yes, I do my dear." The man replies, brushing off dust from his sleeve. "Have there been any daemon sightings near you? Hmmm...recently?"
That nearly made you trip over your own feet. How would HE know about the daemon? Did he'd send it? What a waste of resources! What is WRONG WITH HIM?
You shrug instead, stuffing down your angry rant. "We live in Niflheim. There are daemons everywhere. Nothing specific." That clearly wasn't the answer Ardyn wanted, as he looked somewhat annoyed at your response. You didn't notice or care. "Do you need anything else, Chancellor?"
He looks like he thought about it for a second, before responding. "Well if you see anything, could you report it to me? I would most certainly appreciate it." You're not my boss but if it gets you to go away, fine by me. "Fine." You reply curtly, finally finding your office. "Goodbye, Chancellor."
Ardyn does an over-exaggerated bow to you, which makes you want to kick him even more. "Wonderful! Until we met again, my dear!" He leaves and you slide inside your office, never have been more excited to start work in your life.

That night, there are two daemons.
Today has already been awful enough! You think, watching the skeletons chatter outside your door. This makes it worse! It was bad enough with the new financial issues, as someone had taken to buying 100,000 gil paintings on the Empire's tab and it suddenly became your job to figure out who it was.
