Your mission is clear and your objective sound. As you stalk throughput the shadows of Gralea, it rings through your head.
Given to you by the Draconian himself, alongside your glowing pendant. You stop and cradle the jewelry in your hand, studying the blue crystal. It's what gave you your powers and what keeps the message in your head.
Eliminate the one dangerous to the Astrals. You knew who that was.
Iedolas Aldercapt. The Emperor of Niflheim. He was the Adagium, he was the scourge on the land. Considering the attack on Lucis's Founder Day three years earlier, it had to be him. It is as clear to you as the gem around your neck.
You scale the walls of the palace and drop inside, hoping that the commanders of the army wouldn't be inside. Thankfully, the coast was completely clear, and you slunk into the shadows, quietly padding down the hall.
The silence made you think once again. About the Founder's Day attack. The Astral Ifrit had been under the chain of Niflheim, and the control of Aldercapt. At least, that's what you were told-
"Yes, Verstael, I hear you...Yes... Oh for the love of-keep your voice down! I'm not going to be able to hear you if you keep screaming."
You froze, and tried to shrink yourself against the wall, as the source of the voice rounded the corner. Worry grew in your throat as you realized who it was.
Chancellor Ardyn. He currently was still boredly talking to...whoever it was...on the phone, and hadn't noticed you quite yet. You scan the walls, looking for an escape route to the throne room, or anything else for that matter. How were you going to eliminate Aldercapt with the Chancellor right there?
Ardyn stops in the middle of the hall, still on the phone, and you decide now is the time to move. It was now or never.
At the same time, a magitek soldier rounds the corner and rams directly into you, causing a raucous crash that reverberates throughout the entire building. The soldier jumps in for the kill, but you slash at it like an animal, your hands glowing with godly power, and it stops moving.
You curse your luck, until you feel something burning into your back. When you whip around, you notice the Chancellor staring at you, still on the phone, an odd expression on his face.
He looks...amused. "Hmmm...? Sorry, Verstael, I'm going to need to call you back." The man smirks, and you grit your teeth.
"Something has come up."
The panic was back now. Much more so. This was quite possibly the worst thing that could've happened. How were you going to-
Something, what looks like a blade, slams into your side, causing you to double over. You cough, your ears ringing, and try to run, but the Chancellor catches you, twisting your arms behind you and pulling you backwards.
"What an interesting little toy they sent..." Ardyn taunts you, as your eyesight begins to dim. "And you're not going anywhere, not for a while at least."
You're dimly aware of the man slinging you over his shoulder, and then everything goes dark.
******
You cough, feeling drowsy. "Where am I?" Sitting up, you blink and rub your eyes, trying to make sense of your surroundings.
The room where you are is a bedroom in shades of red and black, and you're laying on the bed. Whoever had dropped you in here had haphazardly thrown the comforter over you and left.
You remove the blanket and blink again, still confused, when suddenly the previous events, your failed mission, the Chancellor intercepting you, everything comes flooding back.
You leap off the bed and land on the floor, feeling your bones creak in pain. Something still felt off, and you look down, noticing that your pendant looked different.
The gem was glowing violet and red. You shake your head, ignoring that for now, and pad out of the room, heading down the hallway. Who owned this place? And how did you get here?
You step into a larger room, and freeze in place, getting all your answers immediately. And some of them you really didn't want.
"Well, look who's awake." The Chancellor purrs, leaning back in his chair. You bristle and prepare for a fight, only for the man to sigh and wave a hand. "Oh no. I wouldn't even bother."
You feel every nerve in your body freeze shut, and your powers fade to nothing. The panic returns and with nothing better to do, you sit down in a chair across from Ardyn, who looks quite pleased with himself. You wanted to kick his face in, but restrained your thoughts for now.
"So, tell me this, toy of the Six." He starts, folding his hands together. "Who did they send you down here to assassinate? I would love to know." By the gods, the simper in his voice nearly made you vomit. You refuse to answer, keeping your mouth shut.
Ardyn sighs again. "You're certainly not the brightest, aren't you my dear?" He waves his hand once more, causing your body to shut down and this time, pain shoots through your entire body. You gasp and choke back a scream. "Now, answer the question.
You wipe your mouth, and grunt in pain again. "I was sent to kill the one dangerous to the Six. The Adagium."
That certainly got the man's attention. He looks directly at you. "Oh? And who do you believe that to be?"
You cross your arms and question not answering him, but seeing as you didn't want to be stuck in pain again, you decide against it. "Emperor Aldercapt. He is the menace against us all."
Silence. The room falls into deathly silence.
Then Ardyn bursts out laughing. His reaction takes you completely by surprise, and you just sit there in confusion, waiting for him to stop. "They truly told you nothing!" He cackles, leaning back.
After a few seconds, Ardyn stops laughing, and stands up suddenly, walking toward the door. He wordlessly beckons you after him, and with no choice, you follow behind. "I want to test something with you." Was all he said, leading you out of the house and to a large arena of sorts.
You stand a ways away from the man, confused as to what he meant, when you suddenly smell something familiar.
Fire?
You whip around, smoke and fire filling the area, and see the Astral Ifrit bearing down on you, and you freeze in place. What was Ifrit doing here? And how-
Ifrit screams, and you notice something dripping off of him. "Starscourge." You whisper. "Why is Ifrit infected with the plague?"
"Well?" Ardyn calls to you suddenly and you whip back around, noticing the cruel smirk on his face. "What are you waiting for? Take down the fallen god!"
Ifrit roars again, and you freeze in place once more. How did Ardyn have one of the Six under his control? And how did he...?
The Astral slams a claw into your chest and you go flying, crashing into a faraway wall, and feeling your bones crack. You cough, and look down back at your pendant, noticing the same thing that had been dripping off of Ifrit.
"Starscourge." You repeat dully, before the Astral vanishes once again. It all made sense now. You had been completely wrong about Aldercapt, everything. He wasn't the Adagium.
You feel your chin being tilted up, and you're forced to stare directly into Ardyn's eyes. "I pity you, my dear." The man scoffs, before forcefully flinging you over his shoulder again. "You're even more in the dark than I was."
Once again, you're falling into unconsciousness. You dimly register Ardyn roughly digging his hand into your hair, and stroking it, as he continues to cruelly sneer at you. "Either way, an idiotic minion is better than none. You'll serve my purposes quite nicely."
Your last thought before everything went black is "Why didn't the gods tell me?"

Alternate title: Y/N is a moron.
Here's your Ardyn content everyone. You can thank me later.
Also, speaking of Ardyn, it took four hours to recruit him today in Opera Omnia. And it wasn't fun. So much grinding...
Anyway, vote, comment, etc. Have a great day/night everyone!
