You watch the portal from your rock boredly, waving your tail back and forth. Mog sits on your head, humming to himself.
"Nothing's haaaappening, Moggy!" You whine, rolling over. "I know Y'shtola told me to watch the portal for Zenos, but it's BOOOOORING! No one's showed up in AGES!"
The Moogle sighed and clambered off your head, patting your ears with his little stubs of arms. "Don't worry, someone will show up, kupo." He says. You yawn and stand up, scanning the rocky terrain, when you suddenly notice the portal glowing. "Oh, here someone comes-"
Your voice dies in your throat as the warrior steps through.
Then you feel your cheeks heat up tenfold.
OH MY GOSH HE'S GORGEOUS
The warrior turns to you and brushes some of his silver hair out of his face. "Are you the gatekeeper?" He asks you, not noticing your blush. You don't even respond, waaay too lost in his eyes.
Mog sees your current state and hops into action. "Kupo, this is Sephiroth. He's a Warrior of Spiritus, and he needs for you to change the portal's direction." The handsome warrior nods, folding his hands.
You jump back to reality, and nod hurriedly grabbing your staff. Then you whisper a small spell and the portal changes. Sephiroth picks up his enormous sword and you try to ignore his muscles rippling. "Portal's good to go!" You squeak, trying to get yourself to focus.
He says a thank you and steps back through, you watching him leave. Mog settles down next to you as you sigh happily. "So pretty..." You whisper, dreamily staring off into space.
The Moogle sighs. It was going to be a long few weeks.
***
You lash your tail and grit your teeth. As a Scion of the Seventh Dawn, you've been through plenty of battles alongside Y'shtola.
But this one was on a whole other level. You were genuinely afraid of losing.
"Hey, Mog" You start, glancing down. "Got any Fenrirs?" The Moogle checks his deck and shakes his head. "I'm afraid not, kupo. Go fish." With a groan, you take another card, just as the portal begins to glow. "Oooh, put the game on hold Mog, we've got company!"
You hop up, putting the cards down, just as two figures step out of the portal. One of them was a tall blonde man wearing gold regalia that was way too fancy for the setting, and the other-
Mog had to throw his entire body in front of your mouth to muffle your squeal. "Good day to both of you, kupos!" He said quickly, fluttering his wings. "I suppose you need the portal to-"
The golden man cut the Moogle off with a scoff. "Save your inane chatter, and change the portal! I don't care about the details, just do it!" He snapped in a pompous voice that made you dislike him almost immediately.
Mog looked taken aback, and that made you more mad, so you grab your staff, and tap the portal. It didn't change, but you made sure the pompous golden man didn't know that. "You're free to go, sir." You hiss, and the man turns on his heel and stalks away.
"Good riddance to you!" You snap, quick to change the portal before he realizes it. Then you turn back to Sephiroth, doing your best to hide your blush, although you couldn't hide your wagging tail. "Anyway, what did you need?"
Sephiroth looks at the portal, then back at you. "Where did you send the Emperor?" He asks, sounding curious. You shrug. "Back where he came from. It's what he deserves." Mog looks at you and sighs like a disappointed parent. "Kupo, you were told not to do that." He sighs, settling on your head.
You want to say something, but are cut off by a small snicker from Sephiroth. "They don't need to apologize. I've been meaning to ditch the Emperor since I met him again. Thanks." He shakes your hand awkwardly and Mog looks at you to see you nearly about to jump with joy. Thankfully, you composed yourself enough to squeak out a "It's no problem!" and tap the portal, as he exits out through it.
Mog glances down and counts back slowly from three. On "one", you squeal and run around the Moogle with excitement. "MOGGY DID YOU SEE THAT?" You shout excitedly.
The Moogle sighs. "Yes, kupo. I saw that." He sighs and watches you jump around like an eager child.
***
"Kupo, I bought Water Works already. You can't buy it." Mog explains, gesturing to the card.
You grumble, your ears pinned back. "I don't get this game. Why are we buying cards?" The Moogle sighs again, and picks up the dice. "It's the point of the game, kupo. I played with Y'shtola and she understood it-"
The portal glows and you leap up, dropping your very few cards. "Forget the game, Moggy! It's showtime!" You start, before seeing who it is.
Without thinking, you grab the Moogle and dive behind the rock, clenching your staff in one hand and Mog in the other. The Moogle squirms in your grasp, fluttering out and glancing ever so slightly above the rock to see who had scared you so.
Then he sees who it is and understands. Zenos yae Galvus skulks around where the portal is, searching for something.
Or someone.
"I know you're hiding, you weaselly little scion." The Garlean hisses, his sword slashing a monstrous hole into the ground. "Why don't you show yourself and maybe I'll make it quick!"
You cower behind the rock, praying that Zenos would just leave, or that someone would show up and get rid of him. Mog pats you on the arm, until he notices the portal glowing again.
"Who are you looking for?" Sephiroth's voice rings through the air and you glance up, a tiny bit of excitement filling your terrified face.
Zenos scoffs as he responds. "Clearly the lowlife rat that's in control of this place. We have unfinished business. Leave." You squeak in fear to yourself.
Sephiroth rolls his eyes. "There's no rat here. I don't claim to know exactly what Mateus told you, but it's the south portal that takes you to the gatekeeper." Mog watches Zenos, the man not looking convinced. Sephiroth evidently notices this and draws his katana. "Of course, we can debate that point if you wish. But then again, if it goes anything as last week's fight against the Chancellor did, you can lose to me next."
Silence.
Then to your absolute shock, Zenos STORMS OFF, and the second he vanishes, you lunge out from behind the rock and slam the portal, closing it before he can come back.
You stand there for a second, winded, until Sephiroth awkwardly breaks the silence. "I was coming here to ask you something, until I saw you hiding from that rot." He rolls his eyes again. "You need not worry, I heard the other cat talk plenty about him."
You tilt your head and swing your staff. "So, what did you want to ask me?" You squeak. Sephiroth rubs his arm, looking...oddly sheepish. "You see, the head of the Warriors of Spiritus is having a formal meeting, or meet and greet, or whatever it is. Either way, I do not wish to go alone. And I believe Zenos would refuse to show his face around us after his recent defeats."
You suddenly realize what he's asking and have to kick yourself in order to stop blushing. "Y-yeah, sure." He nods brusquely as you tap the portal. "Good. It's a date then."
The man vanishes into the portal, and you scream with joy. "MOGGY!" You yell, jumping up and down.
The Moogle sighs and flies out from behind the rock. It was going to be an interesting conversation.

Just something fun and fluffy involving one of my favorite races from FFXIV and Sephiroth lol.
Speaking of FFXIV, I've been thinking about writing some x readers from that functioning mess (mostly set in Shadowbringers because it's actually good), but about who I'm not sure. Y'shtola is the only protagonist I like, and as for villains, Zenos can go choke on a brick.
Eh I'll figure it out at some point. If I do write any x readers from XIV, I know the reader will be a Miqo'te because once again they're my favorites and all the other races (minus the Viera and Hrothgar, they're okay) are eh.
Vote, comment, etc. Have a great day/night everyone!
