Timeline: a month later
AMELIAS POV
"Kids! Are your bags packed?" I asked as I grabbed my suitcase.
"Yes!" The responded as they ran down the stairs.
"Are you ready?" Owen asked as he placed his hand on my back and grabbed his suitcase.
"Yeah," I said and kissed his cheek, but I wasn't. I was nervous. I haven't been on a plane in a while. Meredith and Derek were in a horrible plan crash with Mark, Lexie, Cristina, and Arizona. Two of them died. Now Derek was dead. I hated plans. I didn't want to tell Owen I was anxious about the flight but I'm sure he could tell, and if Caroline was just as like as me as I knew she was, she was feeling anxious too. I felt bad sometimes how much she was like me, all the worrying and anxiety. It was probably exhausting. Owen packed the kids suitcases into the car and we had to grab their carryons. The flight was about 5 hours, and we were renting a log cabin. Caroline and Logan were excited to ski and Maeve and Lucas wanted to snowboard. When we got there today the kids were getting lessons and we would have more fun tomorrow.
"Hey mom?" Caroline asked as she broke me from your thoughts.
"Yeah?" I said. I saw the look on her face and knew she was nervous about going to the airport.
"Plane anxiety?" I asked as I hugged her and she nodded.
"We'll be fine I promise," I said and looked at her, "people take planes every day and they're fine."
"I know," She said.
"Hey guys we gotta get going," Owen said. We all walked outside to the car and got in. Owen drove to the airport and waited for security.
OWENS POV
We were sitting at the gate and we were early, so of course the kids were bored.
"Daddy I'm bored," Logan complained.
"Me too," Lucas said, "and mommy said we shouldn't use all our electronics battery because we can't charge it on the plane."
"Mommy's right," I chuckled.
"Where is mom? And Caroline?" Maeve said as she looked up from her phone.
"They went to go get breakfast," I said.
"Or they're making a run for it," Maeve said.
"They aren't making a run for it," I chuckled.
"If you get both of them on the plane I'll give you $20," Maeve said.
"Caroline hates plane," Logan said, "I told her she should take a nap on the plane. Naps are fun."
"That's a good idea," I said.
"Can we play iSpy?" Lucas asked.
"Sure," I said.
"I spy something blue," Lucas said.
"The chair," Logan said.
"Yeah," Lucas said.
"I spy something brown," Maeve said.
"The coffee cart," I said.
"No," Maeve said.
"The garbage can?" Logan said.
"Yeah," Maeve said.
"I spy something yummy," Logan said.
"Breakfast," I chuckled as Amelia and Caroline came back with food from Dunkin Donuts.
"Yeah," Logan chuckled. The six of us at breakfast at the gate.
"You doing okay?" I whispered in Amelia's ear.
"Yeah," she nodded.
"It's okay if you're not," I said.
"I don't want to talk about it," she said.
"Okay," I said.
-
We were waiting on line to board the plane.
"Can I use the bathroom?" Caroline asked.
"Wait until we get on the plane," I said.
"Please?" Caroline asked as she looked at Amelia.
"Caroline you have to get on the plane," Amelia said.
"I know," Caroline said. The line quickly got shorter and I handed the flight attendant our boarding passes. Caroline ran to the bathroom and the rest of us sat down.
"That's no fair I want to sit next to daddy," Lucas complained. Caroline, Amelia, and I were in one row and Maeve, Logan, and Lucas were in the row next to us.
"Lucas let mom sit next to dad," Maeve said as she put her earbuds in.
"Remember to put your phone on airplane mode," I said.
"I did," Maeve said, "do you need help with yours?"
"It's the little plane icon right?" I said.
"So smart," Maeve laughed.
"You two okay?" I asked as I looked at Amelia and Caroline.
"We're fine," they said. After a little while the plane was about the depart. The plane started to taxi and Amelia grabbed my hand. I kissed her hand and then her head.
"You're okay," I whispered. Amelia grabbed Caroline's hand as the plane started going up.
"Just breathe Caroline it's fine," Amelia said.
"Yeah," Caroline said.
"It'll be smooth before you know it," I said. There was a little bit of turbulence and Amelia gripped my hand. I looked over at the other three and they could not care less about the plane. Maeve had her headphones in, Lucas was doing a coloring book, and Logan was playing with the plane brochures and trying to make them into a house or something. The ride smoothed out and Caroline put her head on Amelia's shoulder. I kissed Amelia's head and she looked at me.
"That wasn't horrible," I said.
"Yeah," she said, "it was okay."
"Wanna play a game?" I asked.
"Sure," she chuckled. I grabbed one of the complimentary writing pads and drew a tic tac toe board.
"You're such a child," she chuckled and grabbed the pen.
"So are you," I said as I took my turn. She went again and we switched until she won.
"I'm better than you," she joked and put the pen down.
"I love you," I said.
"I love you too," she said.
AMELIAS POV
"Mom," Caroline whispered.
"Hm?" I said as I opened my eyes.
"Good morning," Owen joked as he kissed my head.
"What's up?" I asked Caroline.
"We're landing soon," she said.
"Okay," I said and reached my hand out to her.
"Thanks," she said. I nodded as I looked over at Maeve, Logan, and Lucas, who were in the same positions they were before.
"See guys? The flight wasn't that bad," Owen said.
"Yeah," I said. The plane started descending and I squeezed both their hands.
-
"Mom!" Logan said as he ran down the stairs. We were settled in the cabin and the kids were getting ready for their lessons.
"Yes buddy?" I asked.
"I need help with my jacket," he said.
"Okay come here," I said and he ran over to me and I zipped up his coat.
"Thank you," he said.
"You're welcome, are your siblings almost ready?" I asked.
"Lucas is ready and Caroline and Maeve are doing their makeup," he said.
"Why are they wearing makeup we're going skiing," I chuckled as I walked upstairs. I knocked on the bathroom door and Maeve opened it.
"Hi," Caroline said as she looked over at me.
"What is taking you so long why are you doing your makeup?" I laughed.
"Maeve and I have to take Instagram pictures later," Caroline explained.
"And you need all this?" I chuckled.
"It's a very important thing," Maeve said.
"Well be done in 10," Caroline said.
"Okay," I chuckled and walked down the hallway and opened our bedroom door. I walked into the closet and Owen was there.
"Hi," I smiled as I wrapped my arms around his waist.
"Hi," he smiled and kissed me, "are the kids ready?"
"The girls need a few minutes," I said, "they're getting ready to take Instagram pictures or something." We both laughed and he kissed me.
"This is going to be so much fun," he said, and he was right.
