The Nightmare's Over

Timeline: owen's been in the hospital for 3 months.

AMELIAS POV
He's getting worse. The pacemaker only worked for so long. He was weak again. The kids were at school and I was with Owen.
"Honey if you're tired fall asleep," I said softly as I kissed his forehead. I was always so worried that when he closed his eyes he wouldn't wake up. I was so scared. This is the worst I've seen him. He's eaten one meal in the past two days.
"Okay," he managed to get out.
"I love you," I said.
"I love you too," he said weakly, "a lot."
"You're gonna be okay," I said crying, "right?"
"I'm not going to give up," he said.
"I need you," I said.
"I need you too," he said, "I'm not going anywhere." I laid my head on his chest as he put his arm around me.

I heard the door open. Owen was fast asleep and I looked up and it was Maggie. I sat up quickly as she smiled.
"What is it?" I asked.
"I think you should wake him," she said.
"Owen," I said and kissed his cheek, "Owen."
"Yeah?" He asked as he opened his eyes, "what is it."
"We have a heart," Maggie said.
"What?" I smiled, "really?"
"Really?" Owen said.
"Yes! Young donor, unfortunately died in a car crash due to a brain bleed, but the heart is fine!" Maggie said, "we have to prep you for surgery now."
"Oh my gosh," I smiled and got up and hugged her, "thank you."
"You're welcome," she said, "okay Owen let's get you prepped for surgery while Amelia fills out the paper work okay?"
"What about the kids?" Owen asked, "I wanna talk to them."
"Owen with transplants it's not flexible, we have to go now," Maggie explained.
"Okay," Owen said, "let's go."
"I love you so much," I said and looked at Owen. Maggie left to give us a minute.
"Amelia," Owen said weakly, "I love you, tell the kids I love them. If I don't make it, I promise it's okay to move on. I want you to be happy, and the kids. I don't want you to be sad forever, or the kids. I love you so much."
"You're going to be fine," I said crying, "no need to be moving on."
"I know," he said, "but just in case, and, make sure Caroline stays with Brandon, he's nice, make sure Maeve's okay. I worry about her. Make sure she still has fun and enjoys being a kid. Make sure Lucas and Logan have fun with all their sports and stay up with school. Make sure all the kids keep up with school, it's important, but also that they have fun."
"You'll have time to tell them after," I said and kissed him, "I'll see you soon okay?"
"I love you," he said.
"I love you too," I said and kissed his forehead. A few interns wheeled him out and I walked down to the waiting room. The nightmare might be over.

I was currently driving to pick the kids up. I texted Caroline and she said she would meet me at the hospital. I drove to the middle school and signed Maeve and Logan out. They walked down to the office and they looked worried.
"Hey guys," I smiled and hugged them as we walked out of the building.
"Are we seeing daddy?" Logan asked.
"We are, and he's getting a new heart today," I smiled.
"Really?" They both stopped walking and looked at me. I felt my eyes tear up with tears of joy.
"Really," I smiled and hugged them.
"Daddy is going to live?" Logan smiled as he jumped up and down.
"He is going to live, now we have to go get Lucas so we can wait for daddy to be done with his surgery," I said.
"Is caroline meeting us there?" Maeve asked as we got in the car.
"Yup," I said as we started driving to the elementary school. I left the kids in the car as I walked in to the school so pick up Lucas. I walked out with Lucas and he looked up at me.
"Mommy?" He asked.
"Yes bud?" I asked.
"Did something happen to daddy?" He asked.
"He's getting a new heart today," I smiled as I bent down to his height, "Aunt Maggie is giving him a new heart today, so we can go wait for him at the hospital."
"Is this daddy's last surgery? Like he'll be okay?" Lucas asked as we walked to the car.
"Let's hope," I said. The four of us drove to the parking lot and met Caroline.
"Mom!" Caroline smiled as she hugged me, "he's getting a new heart?"
"He is," I smiled.
OWENS POV
I opened my eyes and saw Maggie and my family.
"Owen?" Amelia smiled.
"Hey," I croaked out.
"Owen," Amelia smiled and got up and kissed me, "hi."
"Hi," I smiled.
"Hey Owen," Maggie smiled, "how're you feeling with your new heart?"
"Good," I smiled, "everything went well?"
"The transplant couldn't have gone better," Maggie said, "I'm going to keep you here two days for observation and if all is good then you can go home."
"Home," I smiled.
"Aunt Maggie?" Logan asked, "does this mean daddy is better?"
"It does," Maggie smiled. The door opened and it was my mom and Megan.
"Did it go well?" My mom asked, "is everything okay?"
"Everything is okay," I smiled as Megan ran over and hugged me.
"Oh finally," she said. My mom hugged the kids and I smiled. It was all okay. I was okay. The nightmare was over.
