Timeline: Owen has been in the hospital for 3 weeks.

AMELIAS POV
He's getting worse. He's so weak and it's breaking my heart. He barely eats, he's dehydrated, weak, and super pale.
"Good morning," I said as Owen opened his eyes.
"Good morning," he managed to get out.
"How're you feeling?" I asked.
"Tired," he said.
"Do you need anything? Breakfast? Water?" I asked.
"No I'm fine," he said as he started coughing. He stopped and looked up at me.
"I'm not getting better," he said.
"Don't say that," I said.
"Amelia," he said.
"I know," I said as I could feel tears form in my eyes. He reached his arm out and I grabbed his hand. The door opened and it was Maggie.
"I need to talk to you guys," she said.
"Okay," I nodded and sat down next to Owen and he grabbed my hand.
"I want to put a pacemaker in," Maggie said, "your heart rhythms are dangerously slow, I think it'll help, and buy you more time."
"Okay let's do it then," Owen said weakly.
"Is he strong enough for surgery?" I asked worriedly.
"I've done this procedure on weaker patients, I promise he'll be okay," Maggie said.
"When should we do it?" Owen asked.
"I have an opening in OR 4 in 30 minutes," Maggie said.
"Okay let's do it," Owen said.
"You're sure he'll be okay?" I worried.
"I wouldn't have suggested this if it wasn't a good idea," Maggie said, "I promise Owen you're in good hands."
"I know," Owen and I said.
"We need to get him prepped for surgery, Amelia you can go wait in the waiting room. I know you're a doctor but you are a wife right now. I will come get you when his surgery is done," she said and hugged me.
"Thank you," I said.
"You don't have to thank me," She said. I texted Caroline and Maeve to tell them that Owen was having surgery and that we could wait for him together.
-
Waiting took forever. I could tell the kids were antsy. I was too. I was really nervous too. I was so scared something would go wrong. Owen was so weak, and it made me so anxious that he was having surgery today. After 5 hours I saw Maggie.
"Mommy there's Aunt Maggie," Logan said.
"I'm going to go talk to her okay, I'll be right back," I said and the kids nodded. I walked over to her and she smiled.
"It went well?" I said.
"It went well," She said, "he was under a lot of anesthesia so it'll take a few hours to wake up, but it went really well. Visiting hours are over, I'll call you if he wakes up, but go home with your kids and get some sleep. You need it."
"Maggie can't I just stay here with him?" I begged.
"Go home," she said, "I have an intern monitoring him closely and they know to call you when he wakes up. I'll also be checking in on him every hour."
"Thank you," I said and hugged her, "thank you."
"You're welcome," she said. I walked back over to the kids and they looked up.
"Is dad okay," Caroline asked.
"He's fine. He's still sleepy from the surgery so Aunt Maggie said we should come back tomorrow when he's awake okay?" I said.
"But it went well right?" Maeve asked.
"Yes she said it went fine," I said.
"I want to see daddy," Logan complained.
"But Logan buddy he's asleep anyway, wouldn't you want to come back tomorrow when he's awake so you can talk to him?" I explained. He nodded as we walked to the car. Lucas was really quiet. I pulled in the driveway and the kids went upstairs besides Lucas.
"Mommy?" He asked.
"Yes buddy?" I said.
"I have a question about daddy," he said.
"Okay," I said as we walked into the kitchen and he climbed into a chair.
"Well if daddy needs a new heart, can't I just share mine with him? Like halfsies?" He asked. He was so cute.
"Lucas, while that is incredibly kind of you, that's not how it works," I said and sat down.
"Why not?" He asked.
"Well, you're a lot smaller than daddy because you're a kid, so your heart is smaller. Your whole heart would be too small for daddy, but that's why it's the perfect size for you. Just like Logan's heart is the perfect size for Logan, and Maeve's, and Caroline's and mine. And besides, if you gave daddy half of your heart, half a heart for you wouldn't be enough," I explained.
"Oh," he said, "okay."
"I love you buddy," I said and kissed his cheek, "thank you for being you."
"I love you too mommy," He said.
CAROLINES POV
Everyone seemed okay. My dad had surgery today for a pacemaker and Aunt Maggie said it went really well so that was good. I hope this at least buys him some more time if he can't get a new heart. Maeve was at a friends house right now. My mom let her because we barely do anything now. She was supposed to be home soon but I don't know. I knocked on my mom's door to see how she was doing.
"Come in," she said. I opened the door and she had the TV on but she wasn't really watching.
"Are you okay?" I asked as she sat up and wiped her tears, "did something happen with dad?"
"No," she said, "your father is fine, it's just, Lucas said something that made me sad."
"What did he say?" I asked as I sat down on her bed.
"He wanted to share his heart with your father," she started crying, "and it was just so adorable even though that's not how it works." I hugged her as she started crying.
"Dad will pull through mom," I said, "he will."
"He has to," she said softly, "because Caroline I can't do this."
