CAROLINES POV
"Caroline," Maeve said and nudged me.
"What?" I mumbled as I opened my eyes, "what time is it?"
"It's 9," she said, "my head hurts, am I dying?"
"You're not dying you idiot you're hungover," I said.
"Don't tell mom," she said.
"I won't," I said, "but go shower you still smell."
"Did I shower last night?" She asked.
"Yeah," I said, "I washed your hair."
"Ew did you see me naked?" She laughed.
"No you took a shower with your clothes on you creep," I said and hit her with my pillow, "you were a lot of work."
"Was I? I'm sorry," she said, "did I say anything stupid?"
"You asked if the window in my room had always been there," I said.
"Oh," she chuckled, "yeah that's stupid."
"And you kept talking about my cute nose," I said.
"You do have a cute note," Maeve laughed and got up, "I'll meet you downstairs." She walked down to her room and I walked downstairs. I'm glad Maeve was okay.
AMELIAS POV
Owen woke up last night. Maggie told me it would be good to see him in the morning. I texted him a lot last night and everything seems to be going well. This isn't a solution, but it's a start. It'll buy him hopefully a few more months without a new heart. I got up and showered and made my bed. I decided I shouldn't be so down all the time. I have been lately, but it'll get to the kids. I know it's getting to Caroline because I've been so absent lately and I feel awful. I didn't mean to. I walked downstairs and made pancakes and Caroline as Logan walked into the kitchen.
"Pancakes?" Logan smiled.
"Yup," I said, "we'll eat breakfast and then we can go visit daddy in the hospital."
"You're happy," Caroline said.
"I've decided that being down all the time only makes everything else worse," I said, "I don't want to contribute to the sadness, your father is doing great and his surgery went well, no need to mope."
"Happiness looks good on you," Caroline smiled.
"Good morning!" Lucas smiled as he walked into the kitchen with a box.
"What's in the box?" I asked.
"Lego's," Lucas said, "Daddy said I can bring my lego's in when he's feeling better, and he's feeling better right?"
"He is," I smiled.
"Can I play with the lego's too?" Logan asked as he shoved pancakes into his mouth. Lucas nodded as he placed the box on the table.
"Is your sister up?" I asked.
"Yeah she's taking a shower," Caroline said. After a few minutes Maeve came downstairs and we all ate breakfast. I hoped today would be a good day.
-
"Daddy!" Lucas smiled.
"Hey guys," Owen smiled. I smiled as I walked over and kissed him.
"How are you feeling?" I asked.
"Better," he said, "still not a 100%, but much better than I was previously."
"That's amazing," I smiled, "I love you."
"I love you too," Owen said, "I love you too guys."
"We love you dad," the kids smiled. Lucas and Logan climbed on the bed with the box of lego's.
"Daddy can we play with the lego's now?" Lucas asked, "you're better right?"
"Yes," Owen smiled.
"Just be careful around daddy okay," I said.
"Caroline and Maeve do you want lego's?" Logan asked.
"Sure," Caroline said and pulled up a chair while Logan gave her a bag of lego's.
"Maeve?" I asked.
"I'm okay," she said quietly. She rubbed her eye and she looked like she had a headache.
"Maeve wanna walk?" I asked.
"Uh sure," she said. We got up and walked down the hall. I couldn't tell if she was hungover or just really tired.
"You okay?" I asked.
"Yeah," she said.
"Do you have a headache?" I asked, "you look tired."
"I am," she said. I stopped walking and looked at her.
"Maeve I've been hungover before," I said.
"What? No mom I'm not-" she said.
"Are you hung over?" I asked.
"Please don't be mad," she said, "I just, I, I'm sorry."
"I thought you went to Jessica's last night," I said.
"I did," she said, "Mom I'm sorry I didn't mean to."
"I know," I said, "I was like that once too."
"You were?" Maeve asked.
"Yeah," I nodded, "A really long time ago I got into a lot of trouble with drinking and drugs."
"Drugs?" She said.
"It's a long story," I said.
"Are you mad at me?" She said.
"Yes," I said, "you're not allowed to go to Jessica's for a month. But I'm also here for you. I know I haven't been the best mom lately and I've been really absent. I know I have been, and I'm sorry I haven't been there for you guys. You can talk to me anytime."
"You're doing the best you can mom, you're not a bad mom," She said.
"I'm trying," I said as I hugged her, "please don't drink again. It's dangerous and you're so young. You're 14, don't drink!"
"I won't," she said, "I'm really sorry."
"Now I wouldn't be lying to you if I said I wasn't disappointed," I said.
"I know," Maeve said.
"How'd you get home," she asked.
"Jessica's older sister," Maeve said, "and then Caroline was awake when I got home."
"Your sister knew about this and didn't tell me!" I said.
"Well she's worried," Maeve said, "maybe she was going to tell you today. I don't know."
OWENS POV
After the pacemaker surgery I feel so much better. I'm still in pain, and technically I'm still dying, but I'm getting a few extra months with my family if I don't get a new heart. Lucas and Logan were currently playing with lego's on the bed table.
"Daddy look at my car," logan smiled.
"It's so good," I said.
"Caroline you aren't using your lego's," Lucas said.
"Do you want them back?" Caroline chuckled and placed the bag on the bed.
"Are you texting Brandon?" I asked.
"Uh yeah," she said.
"Oooh your boyfriend!" Lucas said.
"Can he come over again?" Logan said, "dad should meet him."
"That's a good point Logan I should meet him. Caroline?" I chuckled.
"We've only gone out on 2 dates," Caroline chuckled.
"Fine," I chuckled, "did your mother get lost?"
"She's talking to Maeve," Lucas said, "remember they went for a walk?"
"Is Maeve in trouble?" I asked.
"I don't think so," Logan said. I looked at Caroline and she went silent.
"Caroline?" I asked.
"I'm sure it's nothing," she said. The door opened and it was Amelia and Maeve.
"Hey," I said.
"Hey," Amelia smiled, "guys can I talk to daddy for a second?" The kids nodded and left.
"What's up?" I asked. Amelia sat down on the bed and picked up a lego.
"How're you feeling?" She asked.
"You didn't clear the room to ask me how I was feeling," I said.
"You're right," she sighed and laid down next to me. I put my arm around her and kissed her head.
"Maeve got drunk last night and Caroline tried to hide it so I wouldn't find out," Amelia said.
"What?" I said.
"I let her go to Jessica's and now I'm afraid she's like me," Amelia cried.
"No shh honey this isn't your fault," I said, "this isn't your fault. She's a teenager, and under a lot of stress."
"It's not an excuse," she said.
"I'm not saying it is," I said, "I'm just saying that it's not your fault, we all have a lot going on right now and they're kids. They'll make mistakes, and they'll learn."
"Yeah," she said as she wiped her eyes, "I just feel like I've been so absent and distant from them lately and I feel awful."
"You're doing your best, it's okay," I said and kissed her, "it'll be okay."
"You're feeling better though, right?" She smiled.
"I am," I said.
"Well that's good news," she smiled.
