AMELIAS POV
He said it. The words I've been thinking for months. But I'm scared. We just started a new job. We just moved here. I feel like the time isn't right, but I feel like it never will be. We'll always be busy. We'll always be surgeons.
"I do too," I said after a minute.
"You hesitated," he said.
"Well yeah, I mean Owen we just moved here. We started working today. I just feel like we've been waiting for the right time in our careers so we can step back and have children and I'm starting to think the right time isn't coming," I said sadly.
"Yeah," he sighed.
"It's not a no," I said.
"I know," he said.
"I'm just worried," I said.
"Well talk to me," he said, "what are you worried about."
"Well when we have the baby, you can go back to work whenever you want. My body is going to take a while to recover, I'll be out of work for months. Not that I don't want to stay home with the baby in the beginning because I do. I really want to start a family, I just feel like I'll fall behind at work," I said sadly, "I don't know."
"Hey, it's okay. It's a valid concern," he said and kissed my cheek, "we'll figure it out."
"Can I also tell you something else?" I said.
"Yeah," he said.
"It's really stupid," I said.
"No it's not," he said.
"I'm scared of getting an epidural because it has more addictive substances in it than oxy, and we saw how in college I got so addicted so quickly. I'm so scared that if I get an epidural I'm going to get addicted again and won't be able to take care of our kids, or worse. But I'm also worried about not having one, even though I know that's what I have to do," I said.
"Yeah," he said, "I think you're right, but it's nothing to be scared of. I'll be there right with you the whole time."
"I know," I said, "I know that."
"So we wait a little longer," he shrugged, "it's not big deal."
"Yes it is," I said, "We'll come back to this conversation in 4 months and come to the same conclusion."
"So what are you saying?" He asked.
"I want to try getting pregnant," I said nervously. He sat up and smiled.
"Really? You're being serious?" He said.
"I'm being serious," I said.
"I love you," he said.
"I love you too," I said. He kissed me passionately as we cuddled on the couch and ate dinner together.
-
We're trying for kids. I'm excited. I'm scared, but I'm excited. We've wanted this for so long. Owen would make a perfect dad, and he's wanted to be one forever.
"Amelia," Owen said.
"Yes?" I said.
"Wanna try some baby making in the shower?" Owen said. I laughed as I got up and walked into the bathroom.
"Well not when you phrase it like that," I laughed as he grabbed my waist. He pulled me into him and planted a kiss on my lips. I smiled as he kissed me again.
"Yes or no?" He said softly.
"Yes," I said, "obviously."
"Obviously," he mocked. I chuckled as I nudged him and we eventually got in the shower together.
OWENS POV
I was watching the news and Amelia was sitting next to me on her computer researching something. I cuddled into her and she giggled as she ran her fingers through my hair.
"What are you looking at?" I asked.
"Did you know you can actually minimize tumors with lasers?" Amelia said.
"I didn't," I said.
"Watch this video with me," Amelia said as she hit play. We watched a five minute demonstration of it with cardboard.
"That's neat," I said.
"Yeah," Amelia said. Her phone started blowing up and she looked over at it.
"Who is it?" I asked curiously.
"Koracick, neuro attending," she said, "and kinda annoying."
"Ah," I said.
"He's extremely arrogant and self centered," she said as she responded to his text, "but he's funny."
"Hm," I said, "interesting."
"Yeah," she said, "he's kinda a handful to work with, but he's a really good teacher."
"I can only imagine," I said.
"Yeah," she said. She yawned and typed up a few research questions and then closed her computer. She cuddled into me and I smiled. She wrapped her arms around my waist and she laid her head on my chest.
"Good night honey," she said softly, "I love you."
"I love you too, Goodnight Amelia," I said.
"Mhm," she mumbled as she passed out. She always fell asleep so quickly and it was so cute. I shut the tv off and looked down at my precious wife. We could be parents soon.
