Scene 61 – He knew the risk
Angelo stared at the winding driveway of the Carmichael estate, he was still inside the car, he didn’t want to go out, if only his damn secretary answered her phone or if only she didn't bring his son here, he wouldn’t have to be here.
He exhaled before opening the car door, he walked toward the door where one footman was waiting. He was led to the garden where his son was.
The first person he noticed was of course, Cassandra. She was laughing with Clara and her face shone with happiness. God, she was beautiful.
“Papa!” his head spun, his gaze turned to the little girl who was running toward James, James bent down and picked her up, he spun her around and she laughed.
A girl identical to the little girl in James’ arms ran toward them with Peter running behind her, “Me too, papa!”
James shook his head, put the girl in his arms down, “I’m sorry Maggie, later. I’m needed inside.”
Maggie pouted but didn’t say anything. So the one in James’ arms was Isobel. They were really identical.
James kissed his daughters in their forehead before heading back inside. He started walking when he noticed Angelo still standing near the French doors, “Peter, your father is here.” He told Peter, he turned to Maggie next, “Call your Aunt Jen, tell her, her boss is here.” And he walked inside without him acknowledging him.
Peter walked toward him hesitantly, he looked up, Angelo noticed that his son was messy but he did look he had fun. His face was lighter “Daddy.”
He nodded, “Tell your goodbyes to your new friends, we’ll leave as soon as I talk to my assistant.”
Peter smiled and ran back to where the twins were, they were now with Clara’s kids.
Angelo waited for Jenny, she came hurrying down and she looked apologetic enough that he was half-tempted not to yell at her for taking his son. He wanted to. God, he did but he resisted the urge, Cassandra was here. So was James.
“Sir, I am really sorry. She was hurting him and he wanted to leave so I took him out. I thought maybe he just needed to have fun today.” She rambled.
“Wait what? Who hurt my son?” his voice grew louder than expected. This was his son after all.
“His nanny.”
He shut his eyes, Elsa was hurting his son? She’d pay for this. Georgina was definitely turning on her grave right now. Peter came back so he turned to Jenny, they couldn’t talk about this here. “Let’s go. I need you to recount the details of what happened today.”
His gaze caught Cassandra’s and she smiled warmly at him so he smiled back and nodded. He mouthed thank you before turning around, Peter took his hand and together they walked.
