Scene 31 – Even the strongest couldn’t win against
Aiden tossed the document unto the long table, muttering a curse, damn it. Why had the judge granted Moreno and his crew bail? And now why had the DOJ hadn’t set up the protection the star witness needed.
Moreno was out and their star witness was somewhere in a hotel suite with only two cops with him. Moreno would find him and kill him, no doubt.
He sunk to the chair and sighed. He checked his watch, he was late for dinner, hell he missed tucking the kids to bed. Clara was probably waiting for him.
“Sir?”
He looked up and saw Heather his assistant by the door, “What is it?”
“Your brother is in line for you.”
He nodded and reached the phone. He placed on it on his ear and greeted Alex, “Hey.”
“Hey how’d the interview go?”
“Good I think.” He said, then he proceeded telling Alex about last night’s debacle.
Alex was silent then Aiden heard him breathed a sigh, “You need to tell Dad.”
He knew he needed to tell his father about what he was feeling, that somehow he was in danger that last night’s run in was intentional. Someone was trying to kill him and endanger his family or scare him off.
Which he was, he was scared and pissed off. He wasn’t scared for his safety, no, he was scared for his family. If he hadn’t noticed the SUV last night and swerved away, he didn’t know what would happened except they’d be in a hospital now.
“I know. I think he’s going to assume it’s Moreno’s.”
“Isn’t it?”
“I don’t know but Alex, I don’t want to give up this case. I’ve worked hard for this case ever since I learned about the chaos here in Chicago that Moreno put, I’ve wanted him down.” This was his dream, putting Moreno and his crew down. He wanted peace and order in Chicago. He knew it’d be hard especially since the crime rate in Chicago was high.
“He won’t make you drop the case. He’d just add security detail for you and your family.” He was probably right especially since this was a big case and this case would help his dad in the presidential election next year. “Did you tell Clara about this?”
“God no.” He wouldn’t. Clara would worry and he didn’t want her to. “When this was all starting up, Clara voiced out her worries and I promised her that nothing would happen. If I tell her about this Alex, she’d worry to death. Hell she might even chain me up to our basement until this all blows over.”
