Scene 33 – I’m here, I’ll protect us

Clara didn’t know how she made it through the day without breaking down in front of everyone especially the media that had been following their family since that fateful night. She didn’t even know how the kids made it through, she had been on autopilot since she woke up.

She didn’t want to go, hell, she didn’t want this to happen but she needed to do this, she had no choice.

Now, after the funeral and back here at the house with so many guests, she was by the kitchen staring blankly at the foods that the guests had brought. The kitchen was full and so was the formal dining room.

This might go handy if not for the fact that Melinda and her mom had been the one doing to cooking, she didn’t have the energy to do so, all she wanted to do was curl up in their bed with Aiden’s shirt so she could still smell him.

She felt someone tugging the hem of her dress, she looked down and found Maddox and frowned as soon as she saw her little boy covered in chocolate, she bent down, “Sweetie, can you tell mommy why you’re covered with chocolate?”

“If I do this, daddy will come back and bathe me!”

She didn’t know what happened but she just… snapped. “Daddy’s not ever going to come back!”

Maddox lips quivered and he cried, “No! Daddy will come home!”

She grabbed him by his shoulder and shook him, “He’s not! Look around you! He’s not Here! He left us!”

He pulled away and glared at her, “I hate you mommy!” and ran.

Nang natauhan na si Clara ay agad niyang hinabol si Maddox, bakit niya ba iyon nasabi sa bata, “Maddox wait.” Napatigil siya nang makita si Selene kausap si Melinda, agad siyang pumunta sa dalawa, “What the hell are you doing here?”

Napatigil sa pag-uusap ang dalawa at tumingin sa kanya, “Clara, I came here to pay my respect.”

“How dare you.” she seethed, “How dare you come here in my home and pay your respect when you’re the reason why he’s gone!”

Selene stepped back shocked, “Me?” she placed a hand on her chest, “I had nothing to do with Aiden’s death.”

“You represent Moreno! You knew something was up, that was why you showed up here that day and you… He’s gone because of you!”

“I told Aiden to back off, to drop the case, Clara. I did him a favor but he didn’t listen.”

“GET OUT!” she yelled, she knew everyone in the vicinity were watching this spectacle, “I don’t want you here in my home near my kids!” she yelled again pointing at the door, “You knew Moreno planned to kill Aiden but you kept your mouth shut for what? For the few millions Moreno is bringing your firm? You could’ve told the judge and maybe my husband would be here.” Her tears fell.
