Scene 60 – Deserve better than the past
Jenny took Peter to the ice cream parlor she had heard from Kieran, every kid having a bad day needed an ice cream. She ignored the buzzing of her phone and focused on making Peter smile for the day.
The kid needed it.
She didn’t know why Peter told her about the alexia. She understood now, she understood why he had to study and why he was homeschooled. She didn’t try to talk to him about it. She knew he didn’t want to.
So she took her here.
Kumakain sila ng ice cream pareho nang dumating bigla yung driver ni Jenny, yumuko ito at binulong, “Ma’am, tumatawag po si Ma’am Cassandra.”
Tumango siya at agad naman niyang nilabas ang phone niya, ayun nga madaming missed calls galing sa ate niya kaya tinawagan niya ito. Tumayo siya at iniwan muna si Peter doon.
“Hello, ate bakit ka napatawag?”
“Where are you? Wala ka raw sa work. We’re back from London.”
Nagulat siya, nandito sila Ate? Pero bakit sila napauwi ng Maynila? Para ba bantayan siya lalo’t na ngayon na wala na siyang kasama ulit sa estate?
“Kasama ko ngayon yung anak ni si Sir Angelo.” Sagot niya dito.
Nahimik sa kabilang linya ng ilang segundo, “Bakit kasama mo si Peter?”
“Wala kasi kanina sa office si Sir at may meeting kanina kaya pinuntahan ko siya sa bahay niya pero wala rin siya. Basta, ate long story eh.” Ayaw niyang sabihin sa ate niya na sinama niya si Peter ng walang paalam. Alam na niya ang sasabihin ng ate niya. “Pero kasi death anniversary ng mommy niya. Pupuntahan namin sa sementeryo. Nandun daw din si Sir eh.”
“Wag na. Ipasyal mo nalang siya at wag mong dalhin sa sementeryo. He doesn’t need to see his mother like that.”
Her sister got a point, it might be too hard on Peter if they did go there. But Mr. Chua was there.
“Okay. Pwede bang dalhin ko siya sa bahay para naman makalaro niya yung mga pamangkin ko.”
“Sige, bring him here. Clara and the kids are on their way now so it’d be good to have more kids.”
Tama nga, sabi ni Peter hindi siya nakakalaro kaya eto na yung magandang opportunity para makapaglaro siya kasama ang mga ibang bata.
“Sige, pagkatapos namin dito, dadalhin ko siya diyan. Bye ate.”
“Bye.”
Kaya bumalik siya sa booth nila ni Peter at ngumiti, “Guess what? I’m taking you to a play date.”
