Happy drove me to school for the first time since my dad died. I didn't want to go knowing people are going to be like, "I'm sorry for your loss." It's not that I didn't want people to say it, it's just, I didn't want people to feel sorry for me. Happy pulled up to the school and looked at me.
"Are you gonna be okay? If you want to go home now, I'm okay with that."
"Happy," I say, looking him deeply in the eye. "I'm gonna be okay." I get out of the car and walk into the school.
"Callie," a girl says. "I'm sorry." I smile faintly. Everyone starts to talk to me but I stop listening when I see the T.V. is on. 'I Will Always Love You' by Whitney Houston is on and all of the fallen Avengers show on the T.V. I take a deep breath in while watching it.
"Gone. But not forgotten." Betty says. Then MJ taps my shoulder.
"Hey," she says, pulling my into a hug. Ever since Liz left, MJ and I have gotten really close. I'm the only one she'll hug. "How have you been?"
"I'm good, I think."
"Well, better than nothing." The bell rings and we go to our classes. I see Peter in the hallway before I do.
"Hey!" I hug him and he hugs me back. Once we pull apart, he kisses my cheek.
"We better go to class before we get in trouble." I nod at his comment.

All day, Peter, Ned, and MJ have been comforting me about the whole dad dying and people swarming me thing. Tonight, Peter and Aunt May have a meeting with the press and stuff and she asked me to go and help out. I was back stage wearing ripped jeans and a shirt with a North Face jacket on. I could hear May and Peter talking to the crowd and then the door opens. Once he's back, he unmasks himself.
"Callie?" He hugs me, and picks me up of the ground. "I thought you had to help your mom with something."
"I did," I say, as he puts me back down.
"What is it?"
"This is it." He laughs. He turns towards May and they high five.
"That was amazing."
"That was great!" May exclaims.
"Ah, that was so cool. I was a little nervous!"
"My body was a little stiff, I felt like I wasn't in the pocket."
"No, I thought you did great!"
"Yeah, we'll, actually, I did think you were a little stiff."
"I felt that, too. I felt that, too."
"It's fine, it's fine, it's fine. Did you get your passport?"
"Yeah."
"Mini toothpaste?"
"Yeah." Then Happy comes through the door. He has a big check in his hand and he compliments May which leads to her complimenting him and it goes back and forth. Once May leaves with the check, Happy turns towards Peter.
"Heads up, Nick Fury's calling you."
"Nick Fury's going to call me?"
"Nick Fury's gonna call him?" I asked, shocked.
"Yeah."
"Why?"
"Why? Because he probably has some hero stuff for you to do. You're a superhero. He calls superheroes." I turn towards Peter, happy for him. Peter, on the other hand, doesn't seem so happy.
"Well, I mean if it was really that important, he'd probably call someone else, even Callie. Not me." Then a phone starts to buzz.
"Apparently not." Peter pulls out his phone.
"No caller ID. That's him."
"I don't really want to talk to Nick Fury."
"Answer the phone."
"Why?"
"Because if you don't talk to him, then I have to talk, and I don't want to talk to him."
"Why don't you want to talk to him?" I ask.
"Because I'm scared. Just answer the phone!" Peter holds up his phone and declines the call. Happy and I both have shocked looks on our face. "You sent Nick Fury to voice mail?"
"Peter, what the hell?" I ask.
"Yeah."
"You don't send Nick Fury to voice mail!"
"Did you hear that? They're calling me. I got to go. I got to go." Peter kisses my cheek and backs up.
"You got to talk to him."
"I'm going to call him. I promise you. I'm going to call him. I will."
"You do not ghost Nick Fury!"
"I promise you, I'll call him." Peter puts his mask back on. "Bye, Cal." He walks out and Happy turns to me. Then his phone starts to ring. He answers it.
"It's Nick Fury," he mouths. I nod my head.
"Yeah? Hi...no, no, he's not ghosting you." He hangs up and we walk out to the car. We get outside and I see Peter on the top of the roof. I look back at Happy and fly myself up to him. I sit by him, making him look towards me. I stick out my hand, and he starts holding it. I kiss his cheek and we sit like this for a while. "Callie!" I hear Happy call. I turn towards Peter who has a sad look on his face. I take my other hand and pull his face closer to mine. Our lips meet, and the butterflies in my stomach make me go crazy. I pull apart and fly down, scaring Happy. He gets in the car and he takes me home. Once he pulls up to the brown cabin house, I get out and see my mom and Morgan in the living room. They're laughing while watching a movie.
"Boo!" I say, scaring them both.
"Ahhhh!" Morgan screams. Morgan laughs and jumps in my arms. I hug her and sit down by my mom. She kisses my cheek and puts her arm around me. She squeezes my arm tight, holding me close to her.
"How was school?"
"Weird. Different."
"Well, was it good?"
"Yeah, I guess you could put it that way."
"Well, young lady, you need to get to bed so you can get up early." She kisses my head and I get up to go to my room.
"Night, Maguna." She smiles at me and waves. I walk up to my room and get dressed into my pjs. I lay in bed and look at the picture of my dad and I. My eye lids start to get heavy. Then I drift off to sleep.
