I left and went to the couch. I put on 'The Fault in Our Stars' and watched it, Jason came out about 30 minutes later. He had a case in one hand and a stack of smaller green cases that I'm guessing were the games.. He walked to the tv. "Mind if I go ahead and set it up?" he asked "Go ahead" I said and he turned the TV "Great she's still got one HDMI open" He said and opened the case. Inside was what I'm questing was his Xbox, some wires and two things I'm guessing are the controllers. "Where is your wifi router?" He asked "It's on the TV stand" I said and he brought his Xbox out of the case and started plugging things in.
He connected the Xbox to the tv, the Xbox to the wifi router and then he plugged the Xbox into the outlet. "Alright, everything's hooked up." He said and he put the smaller green cases in one of the drawers, leaving one out and setting it on top of the xbox. I was intrigued and watched him set it up. He brought the controllers out, set one on the Xbox with the game and kept the other one in hand and sat next to me on the couch.
He turned the xbox on and switched the HDMI that the tv was on. there was a green loading screen that said Xbox. when it loaded it asked him to sign in and he did. He had to change some settings to match my TV but eventually he got everything working. The TV showed a screen with a bunch of squares on it, most of them games. He walked to the tv and opened the green case, he pulled out a disk and put it into the xbox. He seemed to know what he was doing. The game opened, it was called Call of Duty Cold War. "This is Call of Duty? This is the game your nickname came from?" I asked "Yes, it is," He said "Lets see if I can still play. I wonder what I missed." He looked through some stuff and then he started a game. He ran through some buildings and saw an enemy. He shot at the enemy and hit but the guy moved and Jackson couldn't hit another shot. He died and respawned. He died again and respawned. I could see the frustration on his face increase each time he died. He died over and over and over again. He kept dying in the game once an enemy saw him, he was practically defenseless. The game ended and his team lost. The person who got best play was the one who kept killing him; he set his controller down and started yelling at the tv. "Fuck, this game is shit. This is not how it used to be. It's so unfair. This game is shit!" He stood up and walked around a bit after he brought himself out of the next game. I was shocked that a video game could make him so mad.
"What wrong Jackson"
"What do you think is wrong? I suck at the game I used to be better at than anyone else I knew!"
"How can I help?"
"You can't, everything is different. My life just completely changed because of some damn lightning bolt that put me in a coma for nine months. This game changed, Olivia changed, the people I thought I knew changed. The only person I still know is Bruce. You are literally the only good thing that's happened to me in nine months. Nine fucking months."
"Jason"
"there's nothing you can do about it. I'm sorry for yelling. I'm not angry at you."
"Its okay Jason just come sit down"
"I just want things to be better. I'm glad I met you, but everything else went to shit."
"You came to National City for a fresh start. That's okay. And you can relearn that game. Just like you did when you first started playing"
"Yeah, I can thank you Kara"
Jason hugged me, it surprised me but I was glad. I'm glad he trusted me enough to tell me what was wrong. I just hugged him for what seemed like forever. I never wanted to let go. But eventually my phone rang. I pulled away and Jason's hug felt too short. It was Alex asking if me and Jason wanted to meet in an hour for dinner. She said she would've suggested the alien bar but didn't think Jason was ready"Alex wants to meet for dinner. It's in an hour, we better get going if you want to get all your stuff." I said Jason said OK and we both grabbed our new Jackets. We walked to the closest store to Noonan's where dinner was happening and I got coat hangers while Jason picked out sheets. We met in front of the store and Jason paid. We walked to Noonan's and met Alex. She saw mine and Jason's jackets and asked about them "Are those new jackets?" She asked "Yes, Jason bought me mine and got himself one too" I responded "So that's why Jason asked me for your size" Alex said "I wanted to make sure It'd fit" Jason said and the waiter came. Alex ordered a soda and I got a lemonade. Jason ordered a sweet tea. Me and Alex talked and Jason looked over the menu trying to figure out what to order. He had never been here after all. I mouthed a thank you to Alex about the warning Jason may be a bit fragile. She said she wanted to talk later and I said ok. The waiter came back for entree orders. Me and Alex went first. I got a sandwich and Alex got a burger. "Can I get a cheeseburger plain and dry and bacon and a side of fries?''Jason asked, I now know he's a picky eater but I've always liked simple things. "Eating like a kid now are we'' Alex asked Jason "Just what I like. Doesn't matter if you don't like it, I'm the one eating it." Jason said "Touché'' Alex said in defeat. I laughed and I was surprised Alex surrendered that easily. I wondered if she liked Jason too, but she was dating Maggie, and lesbian.
