(ENG) Chapter Six - The Reason

Phana was in his office checking the CCTV of his car carefully once again when an officer brought him the folder containing the investigation documents.

[Flashback]

He was sitting in his car, analyzing the interrogation recordings of a witness who was a roommate of a bus accident victim named Nankhul.

"Nankhul said he wanted to meet someone that night, I didn't ask who that person was, and I don't think he would tell me either..." said the witness explaining the chronology before the accident. "He wore a black hoodie jacket and left the bar drunk..."

"Did you see him be with any stranger before?"

He responded by shaking his head.

"Does the victim have any problem or perhaps an enemy?"

The witness laughed and asked. "Do you suspect that he was murdered?"

"You don't think so?"

"Of course not, even though he is a loser...er...I mean...has a bad temper..." he corrected. "But there won't be anyone who wants to kill him..."

"How do you know?"

"Because he has nothing, even his life is worthless...hahaha..." he laughed.

Pha was silent with a sneering look. "Are you really his friend?" he asked sarcastically after a few seconds.

The witness immediately stopped laughing and cleared his throat awkwardly.

"I-I'm just kidding..."

Pha took a deep breath and continued. "Didn't you notice something strange before that?"

He tried to remember. "I didn't pay attention to it, but Nankhul visited the temple several times to pray, even though he had never set foot in a temple before, he said that he often had nightmares and saw things that were not real..."

"Since when?"

"Er...since two months ago, after he returned from Ban Na Ton Chan ..."

Phana widened his eyes in surprise, he also found a Ban Na Ton Chan bus ticket stub among Nan's personal belongings.

Phana then showed Nan's photo to the witness. "Have you ever seen this woman?"

The witness took a photo from the table and watched it closely. "I think, I've seen her at..." he tried to remember. "Ah, I remembered! This crazy woman came looking for me a week before Nankhul had an accident and said nonsense things..."

"Such as?"

"She asked me to marry her... and threatened to kill me if I refused..."

"So you killed her because of that?" Pha asked to the point then showed him the news of Nan's death.

"What?! No...I don't know her at all...I'm just pretending to be Nankhul...I swear..." he said in terrified.

"Did Nankhul know about this?"

"Er ... yes, but he acted as he didn't care..." He paused for a moment. "But I can read from his expression, he looks surprised..."

When finished, Phana put the recording in the dashboard and started the car, but just a few meters, suddenly he hit the brakes and widened his eyes in shock as he realized the blood writing on the passenger seat's window of his car.
