Around midnight, they were suddenly shocked by the smell of smoke coming from a burning window. Pha shortly opens his eyes and waking up Singto while trying to hold his breath. The two of them stared in shock at the fire, burning from behind the curtain.
Pha immediately pulled Singto out of bed and dashed to the door to save themselves, and suddenly panicked because the door was locked from the outside.
Singto tries to break down the door while Phana immediately checks another window that safe, but it can't be opened, there is a branch holding it from the outside.
Smoke began to fill the room, and flames quickly licked the wooden walls. The two people trapped inside began to have shortness of breath and can't stop coughing.
Singto thought they might die, yet Pha tried to rack his brains, looking for a way to get out from there. He did not believe that after completing the ritual, they would die this way.
"Haven't we finished the ritual? Cough... cough...why do we still have to die...cough..." asked Singto in disbelief as he tried to hold his breath. "Did we do something wrong?"
"We'll find the answer when we get out of here..." replied Pha, trying not to panic as he looked around, his eyes feels hurt because of the smoke.
Not long after, a villager shouted from outside to tell there is a fire. The villagers were coming and trying to extinguish the fire and open the lock to get them out.
While inside, Pha grabbed a chair and threw it against the window strongly several times, the branch blocking the window finally broke, and the window was successfully opened.
He immediately helped Singto climb out before him, and several villagers helped them from outside.
An hour later, the fire was successfully extinguished, part of the room was burned down, and some of the villagers thought the fire came from a candle.
"This is the third time, even though we have reminded the newlyweds to turn off the candles before going to sleep..."
But Pha insisted that he had put out the candle before going to sleep and the fire came from the window. From his analysis, he suspected that someone had poured oil through a window's gap then burned it, also deliberately blocked the exit.
He then remembered the flower's scent he smelled last night and thought for a moment.
"Was someone patrolling the room last night?" asked Pha.
"Of course not, we don't want to interfere with the ritual process..." the village chief replied with an awkward laugh, "But some people are sleeping in the shrine just in case there is a fire like today, did you see something or someone suspiciousus last night? "
"I smell the forest flowers from outside the room, do you order people to put offerings and candles near the room?"
"Forest flowers?" The villagers exchanged a confused look, suddenly a villager whispered something to the village chief. "Oh, that's right, there are an oiled lamp and some offerings placed one meter from the door, is it possible that the wind blew the oiled lamp down and caused a fire?"
"Yes, that could possibly..." said the villagers in agreement.
Pha did not comment, he felt something suspicious, obviously, the window did not make any sound last night, where there could be wind.
After the discussion was over, Pha donated the cost of renovating the room, then said goodbye to the village head and all the residents, returning to Bangkok.
Before leaving, Pha did not forget to ask the old monk the information about the location where Ying and Khan had committed suicide, but the monk did not know where is the exact location of the cliff, he just mentioned the area.
