Deenas POV:
I woke up to my phone ringing and I looked at the collar ID and soul clays name displayed. I didn't feel like answering so I just rolled over and went back to sleep, but soon enough I heard the same ringtone fill my ears. I ground and grab my phone, picking up without looking at my phone again knowing it was him.
" what do you want clay?" I groaned while I heard shuffling on the other side and a low chuckle. I realize this was not Clay anymore.
"Clay" the same voice laughed. In a sarcastic way. "Who the fuck is Clay, Denise?" I felt my heart dropped to the bottom of my stomach when realization hit me. This is the reason I left Ohio, but how?
"W-hen did y-ou get o-" I began to stutter before I was interrupted.
"W-hen d-did I g-get out?" He mimicked back in a baby like voice. "Yesterday, Baby. Where did you go? You're not in Ohio anymore I've heard"
"Max enough." I sat up now and felt the tears brim at my eyes. "Leave me alone. Let me go."
"Sweetheart. I'm not going to leave you alone until you're gone. Ever wonder why I tried to kill you?" The line went silent.
The reason I left Ohio was because of Max. Me and Max were friends for two years before we started talking soon enough begin to date. Biggest mistake of my life. After a year of us dating his manipulations and toxic personality really begin to show through. I wasn't even allowed to talk to my brother without him getting angry. I decided to end it and I told him that it wasn't good for either of us and he did not take it well. He would not stop trying to contact me for two weeks, and I got to the point where he could try contacting my family to. I shut my phone off and he didn't like it. He showed up outside of my house, luckily my parents weren't there because they would be dead. My room was next to their room, and he started a fire and through it through their window, not realizing it wasn't mine. I get night terrors because of this incident, and I don't remember anything other than Darrell caring me out of the house and being in the ambulance. I decided that I should probably call Clay back, since I did miss his call. It rang a few times before he declined it.
"Bitch" I groaned before getting my clothes on. I brushed my teeth and threw my hair into a loose ponytail before grabbing my keys and going straight to the diner. I may seem calm for the call I received. But I'm fucking terrified. I sped through the streets. Hitting 70 and getting to the diner in 3 minutes, rather than 10. It was so empty. Literally zero people were there. I practically jumped out of my car and stumbled into the building, trying not to cry. I saw Ian wiping his hands as he stepped out. He quickly noticed my state and practically tore off his apron before approaching me.
"Woah!" He said loudly, embracing me in a soft hug. "What's going on, D?" He asked while rubbing my back. He let go briefly and I watched home hurry and flip the 'open' sign to closed. He walked me to a random table and sat me down.
"Talk to me" he sat in front of me, not touching me. he knew that I don't like to be touched sometimes when I was getting overwhelmed. Although I needed to feel something. I grabbed his hand and squeezed it tightly, trying to get out what I was trying to say.
"He got out" I sounded like I had been smoking for 20 years. He narrowed his eyes before realization hit him and he began to look angry. I continued to look in his eyes and saw hike calm down when I gave his hands a squeeze.
"When did you find out?" He asked quietly, his leg was bouncing up and down and he was looking at the ground.
"This morning. He called me." I said softly.
"He called you?!" He stood up quickly, causing his seat to fall backwards. He let go of my hands and his hands were balled up into fists. I stood up and put my hands on his shoulders.
